am I not asking enough for my car?

I have a 67 gta conv on ebay right now that needs paint repaired on the back end due to some sort of fluid being dripped on it when it was transported(brake fluid or something else). the car is a c code gta loaded w/options & special order paint.
the body is clean other than the rear trunk area as noted above. both lower rear 1/4's have been repaired w/patch panels, only noticeable from inside trunk.
options: deluxe interior
tilt away steering
convenience light group
gt equipment group
deluxe console
deluxe leather wrap steering wheel
am/fm radio
power top, steering & brakes
folding glass window in top
a/c that actually works, blows cold
special paint ford # unkown.
deluxe seat belts
luggage rack(no longer on car)
black paint stripe
gta badges
interior decor group
tinted glass

the car is presently deep red, may be original color, the paint is a single stage paint, not a candy apple that is for certain which was available in 67 for the mustang. paint under the seat area looks pinkish or faded red.

so I have the car on ebay w/a buy it now of 23000, starting bid 20,000. several people have emailed me saying I am not asking enough for the car.

I paid 19000 for it 5 years ago & done nothing with it.

thoughts?

5 years ago the market was climbing. I'd say the market peaked out maybe 3-4 years ago. Assuming a similar curve on both sides, you'd be right back at about the same price.

Personal opinion is your starting bid is fair. If somebody recognizes it as being worth significantly more, they can use the BIN.

If they think it's so cheap why aren't they buying it?

+1

Market is really off the last couple of years. When people are tight on cash, lost their job, etc the toys (boats, cars, bikes) are the first things to go. Nice to see the parts vendors are finally coming down just recently.

I have seen a few cars lately that are really off what they would have been going for a few years back.

It's a great time right now to be a buyer. I've been thinking of buying something new betting that the prices would come back up sooner or later and can't be any worse then money market returns right now.

When I had my '66 listed, I was getting e-mails like that to. After a couple of them really pushing me to raise the price, I told them both if they thought the price was so low, either buy it and flip it or leave me the hell alone. I found out later that one of the places contacting me was another sales site, wanting me to list the car there and they were saying I could get more money by listing with them.....as hard as it is, I slammed the cell phone in their ears....with a choice selection of words first.

I think you're on to something, Pete, but I think what's happening is that you're diminishing the market value THEY'D like to see. :$$$

It's the same principle as having a neighbor sell their home for what would be a fair, but low, price. It makes it tougher for you to get a higher price when you go to sell your house.

It would certainly explain why both of you were getting all these emails, but the people sending the emails had no interest in buying at a low price. They're still trying to unload theirs at a higher price! :lol

Same thing happened to me last year when I put my car on craigslist. Bunch of yahoos kept emailing me telling it was too cheap.
Then I started the calls from "companies" claiming they could sell it for me and get more money. Nothing but scammers and deadbeats.

Craigslist seems to be rife with these wankers too. It used to be a great place to sell all sorts of stuff. Now all I get is these time wasting emails asking me why am I selling it so cheap. You email them back and get an automated email from one of these companies...
