1966 A/C - Factory or Dealer Only?

Were ALL 1966 A/C cars dealer installed units or did any come from the factory already installed? Is there any documentation to support this?
 
I don't know about documentation, but it is my understanding that the knee knockers that have the round registers were factory and the square ones were dealer add.

I have a square one in the garage and may install it in my 65...I need AC and am too cheap/broke to buy the new stuff.

Since A/C is specified on the window sticker (it was on my '66), that would denote a factory installed option. I suppose it would also show up on buck tags, since various additional holes would need to be stamped in the metal.

My understanding is that it was done both ways. When I installed the factory set up in my 65 the holes in the firewall were already stamped. I just had to punch them out.
 
A/C might have come from the factory but I do know that all of the cars have the provisions (knock out is in the firewall and mounting bolt holes are on the bottom of the dash) for A/C. I installed a 66 A/C unit in my car and it was a cool breeze.
 
I'm finishing my install. My car was an April 1965 San Jose Convertible. No radiator support knockouts, but it had dimples. The firewall did NOT have the oblong knockout, nor dimples. My dash did have the under dash mounting holes, but no dimple for the drain hose. A lot of time was spent drilling out all the big holes.
 
A/C was a factory option in 65/66 and later. Most of the dealer-installed systems are hack jobs and sometimes use a kit which may or may not contain the same components as a factory-installed system.
 
wow on the april 65 build date not having the knockout.

My car was assembled in Jun '65...
