Avatars and judgment
« on: November, 02, 2010, 07:20:17 AM »
Let me start by apologizing to all who had their avatar changed involuntarily. I obviously had a lapse in judgment during some staff choices.

Yesterday my avatar was changed to a picture of an owl. Other than myself, the number of people that can perform this act is very limited. Fortunately, all moderation is logged and I can easily find out who it is.

Today my avatar was changed again to a somewhat vulgar statement. In apparent retaliation for the owl avatar which I neither participated in or authorized.

So here I am, home from work to address this situation. I get paid commission BTW. So I'm dealing with this instead of making money.

Steve is also distracted from his work by phone calls, texts, and cleaning up the mess.

I hope the responsible parties are proud of themselves.

Thanks.

I have issued an apology in GumFlappers.

http://www.stangfix.com/testforum/index.php/topic,9987.0.html

Let me first and foremost say that any offensive avatars placed this morning were my doing and from no one else.  I'm not gonna make any excuses but was under the impression there was a "mass" joke played on me and therefore retaliated without considering some may have not been involved.  My apologies to those who were offended in any way.  Double the apologies to those who had nothing to do with the original joke.  There will be no more profile changes of any sort from me in the future.  If you feel the need to express your dissatisfaction with what took place, feel free to shoot me a pm.  Again, I thought those in on the joke would be on early and see what was happening.  I didn't realize it was not a "group effort" (no excuse) and didn't take the "general public" into consideration when doing this.

Duane,
It takes guts to stand up and raise your hand admitting that a mistake has been made.   At least it has been brought out into the open rather quickly.  Good job.

I didn't see the vulgar part, so I can't comment.....

The owls were rather funny though.  I was getting a chuckle out of it.

Kudos Duane for taking credit and not allowing it to get out of hand.

IMHO shame on those with such thin skin regarding the owls....I am sure Duane's intent was to eventually change them back anyway.

The Vulgar stuff????  Can't say, that may have been the part that got out of hand.

Just a few of my thoughts, not that they really matter anyway.

I must say, when I got on here this am, I saw the owls still....and laughed again. Shortly after that, mine changed and I went into my profile and erased it, thinking it would go to another one soon. It didn't so I installed an old one. Got a pm....about being fast....so there was no question who was at the controls. I laughed about the whole situation but it should have been kept a bit more tasteful.... Good for Duane stepping up.

I did miss Kats new one she did though........dang.

You're not all to blame Duane.

It all started when I jokingly suggested we should change our avatars to owls.  I didn't think anyone would take it serious and actually do it but that started the whole issue.

My apologies as well!

The booty shake one? I admit I put that one up on my profile myself, but figured it might not be appropriate so I changed it to the current 'too sexy' one.

I seemed to have missed all the, ah, fun. Kudos to the folks involved for taking responsibility - there is far to little of that in this world.

Seriously.  When I saw my avatar was changed, I thought my name was next.  It's all good though, I think I can live with the big a$$ ape name.
