Checked On Body Shop Progress Today
« on: October, 22, 2010, 06:28:24 PM »
Made a trip down to the body shop to check on the progress of my 69 R code today. Car is coming along great and is final primer. They plan to start edging the car next week. Then I have to go down and put headliner in and front and rear glass and it will be ready for paint.

Just curious why would you install your glass and headliner before you paint the car. I do that after so you don't stink up your interior, beside that it is easier to mask. Rich.

When he sold his car I told him he could drive mine when I get it done. He is going to hold me to it. LOL

Yes I am going to hold you to it Gary. If you would have only painted the car Royal Marron like i was going to it could have been a twin to what I was hoping to have.

"Then I have to go down and put headliner in and front and rear glass and it will be ready for paint."

Never heard of doing that on a car that is stripped down like yours. I always paint mine first then install the windows.

In fact I did just that this past Sunday {forgive me Lord}, on a truck project that I'm working on.

The problem is that you end up with a line of paint that is a different color around the whole glass when the rubber shrinks over the years.  Ask me how I know this....lol. {yep, the hard way}

Now if your painting your daily driver, that would be different since you probably don't want, or need the paint to be that perfect.

Please don't take this the wrong way, you have a great looking car, but I would get a second opinion on installing the windows before the color coat of paint.

I own a 69 cobra jet and have 2 69's in my shop getting ready to paint, any paint job will turn out better with all the trim removed. It's like saying you get a better paint with all your panels on rather than painting all the parts separate. Rich.
