Doesn't the cork gasket go behind the filler tube?

Yes.  There is no gasket between the flip-down housing and the car filler tube.

Yes, you are correct (brain fart on my part). In my experience though, if you use one cork gasket behind the filler tube and one between the filler tube and the pop open gas cap, it keeps it pushed out just enough that you don't get the markings into the paint on the rear panel, but still sits flush.

I got mine today and it looks great.  I thought I'd mention that if you use a locking gas cap under the pop-open, you don't have to mess with any of the attachments that come with it.

I ordered my pop open from CJ's as well (just not at this awesome price unfortunately) but had an issue with the spring popping the cap open anytime the car was josseled at all. When I called CJ's they said it was pretty common and they recommend using the gas cap underneath it so you don't have to use the spring. I think the combo of the spring tension being too high on the replacement one causing it to pop too easily and the fact that the pivot mechanism you use to open it isn't long enough to fully catch on the inside flange of the cap surround (wow, I hope that made sense!) cause this problem.

Installed my new cap (purchased at the great price) I have not had any issue with the cap popping open on it's own but I have not driven the car with the new cap installed yet. I did note that the cap now hits the bumper when I open it, do not like that.

Been a common issue with every pop open cap I've ever owned. You just have to make sure that you hold your hand under it when you go to pop it open and lay it down on the bumper softly. Not that big of a deal for how great they look on the car!

Just got an email. They canceled my order because they will not be getting anymore. I am furious. I could have lived with the scratches if I would have known that!!!!!!!! :rp

That's just downright crappy of them to do. I would be furious myself. I would be on the phone with a manager arguing over that one.

Before you get your shorts too tied up in knots, revisit the initial post in this thread.  It appears that this sale was a closeout.

I understand that, but when I called them about returning it, they should have set one aside or told me that they could not guarantee that they could replace it. Instead they acted as if they had plenty and it was no big deal. They told me, as soon as they received the scratched one, they would send the new one out.

+1. If they couldn't replace it, especially at that price, then they should have told him that before he returned it.

Got an emblem for my cap, I chose the 67 version.  I liked the black GT better than the red.
