Changed out the valve covers
« on: September, 18, 2010, 08:09:23 PM »
Last night I traded out the valve covers.  The chrome ones were a pita to keep clean and they had developed a haze of something on them about the time I had a radiator leak prior to ditching the old stock radiator.

Pictoral progress of yesterday evening:

Started with this:

In progress

Done

I elected to go with the wire clips that were built into the valve covers.  Need to get some new plug wires in the next couple of weeks...the ones I have will work for the short term but there are a couple of them that are too short, especially on the passenger side.

Looks nice.  Great improvement.  The old valve covers look like the aluminum one I am currently using.  They are a pain to keep polished nice.

very nice, I agree with John, mine are the polished Ford Racing and they look like crap. I've tried all kinds of stuff to clean and/or polish but they still look bad. Those should stay nice for a long time

Married to Tara, that makes me the TARA-fied one!

Thanks guys...I am hoping they will be easier to keep clean.  Sure can't get any worse.  The old ones got a haze of something on them and I couldn't get them clean to save my life.

Now I need to figure out what wires to run.  Currently, I have 8 mm Accel wires.  The Accel ones are a pita...they have a straight end but a 90 degree boot?  I believe I read somewhere that the MSD's you put the end on and then can bend it to match the angle of the boot.

Also thinking about going with 7 mm wires when I replace them.  Part of my problem with getting the wires looking organized is it seems pretty crowded at the distributor.  Wondering if a little bit more skinny of wire wouldn't help....

looks really good red.

are you planning on keeping the ones you replaced as a back-up or are you looking at getting rid of them?

I assume you mean the valve covers and not the wires?  LOL!

Not sure, I put them under the workbench at the moment but haven't decided what I'm going to do with them.  I have an air cleaner that goes with them / matches them but I've never run it on my car since I preferred the chrome Holley one.
