My Stable Just Got Bigger
« on: September, 15, 2010, 09:53:37 PM »
I am now the proud owner of a 1971 Mach I!  I've always loved these cars and now through some interesting circumstances, I have one.  It was purchased from the original owner who said it had 53,000 miles, but the 351C had been rebuilt and that mileage couldn't be documented.  Nevertheless, the car is all original with the exception of replaced half rear quarters due to fat tires that wrinkled the wheelwells and a repaint.  The original color is Wimbledon White and that's what it is now, but it isn't a good paint job.  The exhaust also is not original and you can see a few other minor things in the photos.  It is an automatic, with a deluxe interior, air conditioning, fold down rear seat, and remote mirror.  It does need work, but it's a solid, rust free car and will make a terrific occasional driver.  I might even "tweak" it a bit.  Now for a name.....

Oh yeah, and no, Trouble is not for sale.

Nice looking car Laurie.  If you want to get rid of those bullethole mags let me know.  Back in high school you had two options for wheels.  Chrome bulletholes or sawblades.  That was it.  I went with the bulletholes and when I changed everything out on the car I put them up.  Can't really bring myself to part with 'em.  They are 4 lug 14" and if I came across some 5 lug 15" I might just put 'em on the car, throw on some old Oakley Frogskins, sport the mullet wig and cruise down the road with some Skid Row "18 and Life" or Bullet Boys "Smooth Up In 'Ya" as loud as possible.  Nice find.

Congrats. It looks clean and unmolested. Do you have any interior or engine photos yet?

Is "Whitey" a too non-PC name? My buddy has a white German Shepherd with that name.

Thanks guys, I had a suggestion on the other site of "Moby" for the great white whale and I'm going with that for now, at least.  I'll post interior and engine shots when I get them (don't actually have the car yet).  I'll also post more about how I got it later, too.  Headed to Mexico to go scuba diving now.

Along that theme, how about "Helen" as in Helen Keller?  Of course that would be politically incorrect but then again, so am I!! :craz

Darn that's nice Laurie! I was looking at a yellow one here in Houston a little while back~ many folks don't really seem to like this body style for some reason, but I think they're an awesome looking Mustang~a statement for the early '70's mustang!
way to go!!

A followup:

Through a business partnership I am acquiring a very solid, nice 1971 Mach I.  I got the Marti report and it does show it is a 351 2V with an FMX transmission, a/c, p/s, console, full tinted windows, and am radio.  The car has a NASA hood and Ram Air, but without the rubber seal.  I am being told that the Ram Air was put on by the dealer because a 351C with a/c wouldn't receive Ram Air from the factory.

Is this true, or do I need to adjust my bs meter?  I won't be going concours with the car, but most likely occasional driver.  It depends on what is actually original.  There may be some other dealer changes, but I don't have any documentation yet.  Not looking a gift horse in the mouth, but I would like to know what is in my stable.

Speaking of blind spots. I worked with a guy who drove a 71 Mach 1 and he backed it right under a trailer. Good thing the tractor wasn't hitched to it.
