Didn't make the funeral in time, but...
« on: August, 10, 2010, 03:50:32 PM »
As soon as I got home I pulled the wheels, washed them off the car, check all the brakes, retorqued the spacers and wheels, washed the car itself, then went for a ride around the block with my 4 year old.

Not the best video but you get the idea.

That's cool. I  can't wait until my little girl is older to take her for a ride.

Thanks guys.  My 4 year old was amazed that he was allowed to sit up front.  I don't have the rear seat in, just the fold down which is folded down.

BTW, car is at the inspection station right now, hopefully it will get a good sticker and not a pink one.

Neat video for sure. Just don't let your hair grow or you will have no headroom...... I like the dash board and trees/sky part from the passenger filming.

The headroom issue is on the list.

I'm either going to cut the seat risers, which would allow me to go back to a 15" steering wheel and give me more headroom, or try one of those plastic headliners with a built in roof console that mustangstofear makes.

Sam, the next time you're in my area swing by and sit on my seat pan lowered '66.  We're about the same height and I have plenty of headroom.

Will do.  I'll be by in about 2-3 weeks.  I need to grab a windshield wiper motor from you too.

Is it okay if I just give you the whole assembly including the arms?  I don't think I have any that are disassembled...

Oooh...that looks GREAT!  I'll have to watch for that one for the coupe.  Even though it looks upholstered, I'd still want to cover it with thin foam and either vinyl or an actual moonskin headliner.

I was just lamenting the fact that I'm not too happy with how my headliner install is coming along.  If I don't like it when I'm done, I'll seriously consider the plastic one.

Installing the headliner on a Coupe is a royal PITA, but you can get perfect results with patience and a few tricks.  The problem areas are usually associated with the top corners of the C pillar.

Trick one = heat.  The headliner stretches a LOT more than you think it will when it get's hot.  Sneak your wife's blow-dryer out to the garage to soften the material and get it pulled tighter.

Trick two = moisture.  The headliner stretches a LOT more than you think it will when it get's wet.  While you're sneaking your wife's blow dryer out of the house, grab her bottle of windex and pour the contents into a shop bucket and replace it with CLEAN water.  Moisten the headliner with the water spray to the point that it's dripping and STRETCH it.

Trick three = heat and moisture.  Get it wet, heat it and STRETCH it.

Again, patience and you'll get it perfect.

Well, I'm not married, so I'll have to use my own hair dryer (never actually used to blow dry my dwindling hair, btw).  :lol

The spot I'm really not happy with is the front left corner.  Somehow it got really saggy at that corner, like maybe it pulled out of the window channel.  I'll finish it up and apply your suggestions and see how it looks.  I know also that the visor bracket will help tighten it up a bit.

I replaced the headliner in my old '66 coupe a few decades ago and that one turned out great.  It doesn't get easier with age.  :cry
