Door glass install questions
« on: July, 26, 2010, 03:56:07 AM »
So I started the process of putting my windows back in so I can re-skin my doors. After messing around with the doors for a couple hours I figured I post a few pics to make sure I had all the parts i needed to re-assemble the doors. First of I have to different types of glass in my car, ones a 69 and ones a 70.

The first pic is of everything I have to put the 69 window back in. Look like im missing anything?

The 2 pics after are for the 70, In the second pic idk where the track would go in the 70 bracket on the back of the glass. theres no track like where it mounts on a 69. The last pic is from when I took it apart.

It took me a minute to figure out what you were talking about as everything appears okay.  I believe what you're experiencing are the major differences between the '69 and '70 door glass.  The '69 door glass/mechanism/mounting is considered more cumbersome than the '70.  '69 glass is glued into it's mounting track, '70 is bolted in.  A lot of '69 owners switch to '70 style glass.  I can't see anything amiss in your pictures.

What type of glue would you recommend to use for the 69's door glass?

I would essex 418 hv  urethane It will work better than anything else, just make sure you let it set a day or 2 before you shut your doors.

Also on the 69 door glass - I would clamp some old heater hose or the like on the bottom of each window guide. Just enough to keep the door glass from bottoming out on the stop in the middle & knocking it loose again over time.

I was able to get the 70 glass in and it all works. So ill be doing the 69's glue in glass tonight. I have a question regarding the lining up of the glued in glass. Just wondering where the front and rear of the glass should line up. Should the chrome trim off the window line up right off the back of the bracket. AutoCad pic to show what I mean.
