Shag has new shoes -----NOT !!
« on: July, 09, 2010, 05:46:48 PM »

Update: Wheels and tires returned.  See my update below.

My initial thoughts are it is sitting a little too high in both front and back but until I do an alignment to it and then drive the car like I stole it, I'm not going to do anything to it.  As it stands the rear fender lip is  about 3/4" higher than the front.  I wanted it to be an inch+ higher.

Tire: BFGoodrich GForce T/A KDW  225/50/16
Wheels: AR's Torque Thrust D  16x8

Looks good. I think the front needs to be about a inch lower though. Everyone always says they will settle........

I think the GForce tires turned out looking good.  I think those are the ones Dave S put a vote in for?  Do you have a "straight on from the front" photo?  I'd be interested in seeing that.

Bill,
Until I get the front end aligned,  I don't think you would want to see a head on pic.

Miss (ever so perky) September sounds good to me.

That looks nice Craig. I've always liked those wheels on a vintage Ford.

I agree it could be a bit lower. You still have some weight to put on the car so it'll be a wait and see deal.

Exactly......The whole interior needs to be installed which will add some poundage to the pup, so let's just wait and see.

I agree that you can't make any adjustments 'till the rest of the parts are are installed, but I've never had a suspension "settle" to any noticeable amount, in all the suspensions I've done.  Once the parts are on, that's pretty much the stance you'll have.

front definitely looks high, and the back could come down as well.

Those wheels and tires look awesome, though!

Looks great.

Put her in the weeds Pops.  :)

Just yanking your chain Craig, looks really nice.  Like has been said I think a little lower in the front but until you get everything installed and buttoned up I would leave it as is.  Then work out the stance after you get a few miles on her.

Bah, you're using my wheel/tire combo:P  Seriously, that's exactly what I want on my car.

I think the stance will look better once the front settles down.

You'll be happy with those tires Craig.  Yes, the BFGoodrich G-Force tires are what I'm using.  Road noise is non-existant, wear is good, the rear tires "stick" when warmed and I've driven through rainstorms of biblical proportions for hours without any loss of traction.

Don't get too caught up with the ride height until after everything's installed and the vehicle has been around the block a few times.

Did you happen to torque your control arms before the engine was installed?

OK, On Monday, John (OpenTrackerRacingProducts) called me a couple times with concerns of the wheels I picked saying that the 4" backspace was not going to work for me in the front and he was right.  They were sticking outward too much waiting for a disaster to happen.  So that afternoon I returned the wheels and tires back to my supplier and got a 100% refund.  I found that remarkable since I had already installed the wheels and the steel lugnuts against the aluminum wheel had already shown wear.

Nevertheless, for the look that I want, I'm going with Vintage 45 series that have a 4.5" backspace.  I told my supplier that I'll use the GForce tires which I originally bought if they can land me the wheels at a reasonable price.

So for now, Shag has it's rolling wheels back on........
