3rd member rebuilders
« on: October, 20, 2008, 05:20:53 PM »
Anyone recommend a good rebuilder for a 3rd member? The '66 currrently has an open 8". Most likely stay 8" and maybe posi. Of course, right now I would take a cheap, good open 8" to get rid of the noise.....

If you're going to rebuild your existing unit, why not take it to a local drivetrain specialist?  It would be local, so you'd save shipping, and you'd likely get a warranty on it.

I bought a 28 spline 9" 3.50 TracLoc center section off of eBay last year for $202.50.  Shipping from Jeffs Bronco Graveyard (the midwest?) to eastern NC was $98.

There's a lot to be said for finding a local shop when you're dealing with "heavy" items like rearend center sections.  My guess would be that the local 4X4 shop counter guy could point you to a quality rearend builder who works locally.

I am in the process of comparision now. Local shop will do an 8" posi for around $900 installed. Purchasing out of town looks to be higher and it is still plus shipping. Gotta look at all aspects.
