New member here!!
« on: March, 24, 2010, 08:54:31 AM »
Hello everyone, I've been lurking for a few weeks and I thought I'd finally say hello.

I'm a long time Mustang fan (I've had 7 or 8 of them).  I took a long vacation to have a couple kids and now I'm back into the hobby.

I've got a 1965 vert that I'm in the middle of dropping in a 5.0 from a 90 GT.  The car was used for drag racing, so I've had to go through the electrical and will end up replacing most of the suspension when I'm done.

Right now, there's not much to see.  The car came without an engine/transmission or fuel system and most of the electrical stripped out.  It came with a 9" with 3.89 gears and no rust thankfully.

Here's what the old girl looked like when I brought her home:

Lots of good information on this site, I look forward to getting to know everyone.

Welcome. First vert i think I've seen that somebody used as a drag car. Lots of extra weight to pull.

The 5.0 is a good choice. You going daily driver or restomod garage queen?

She has a 6 point roll cage and GW subframe connectors installed.  The previous owner showed me a pic of the car during a take off at the track with his slicks on.  The front wheels must have been 8 inches off the ground.  The body was straight as an arrow.

The engine was a 331 stroker/C4 built to the hilt.

No garage/trailer queen here..  I'm not spending all this time and money just so I can watch it collect dust.

The previous owner had the weight down to just under 2600lbs.

Thanks!

It's a glass hood and it fits fairly good.  I want to replace it with a 65/66 shelby hood eventually.

Another fellow North Carolinian!  Great news and a nice starting point.

Are you keeping the 5.0's EFI?  It's not that difficult to do so and sure makes life a LOT easier down the road.

Welcome aboard!

Dave,

Thanks!

Yes, I'm keeping the EFI.  Right now, the engine is stock.. but once I get the current engine running, I'll be on the hunt for something a little stronger... aiming for about 350hp.  The car is going to have a t5z gearbox, F/R Cobra brakes, GW rear springs /w Del-alum bushings, and a complete Street or Track front end (UCA, LCA and strut bar).  I plan to run Vintage Wheel Works 17"x8" V-48 wheels.

I've sourced most of my items from Shaun at Street or Track, I can't say enough good things about his assistance.

Sounds like a good plan Shannon.  I did the same exact thing.  I sourced a '90 5.0 w/T5 and got the car running.  Drove it for a few months with that motor while patiently waiting for the right deal to come along.  A few months later a low mile EFI 347 motor showed up on eBay with a low starting bid and the stipulation that the buyer "must remove engine from car".  I was the only bidder and got the motor cheap.  Have patience, the right deal will come along.
