new toy...
« on: February, 19, 2010, 09:10:20 AM »
I have found that poking around on craigslist is dangerous to my wallet, but this one I couldn't pass up...  it's a rong fu rf-30 mill/drill, not the best milling machine out there, but it is way better than nothing....

will post some more pics when I get it cleaned up...
408W, Tremec TKO600, 9" Traction-Lock w/ 3.50 gears and Hiedt's 4-Link, 17" Vintage 45's w/235/45/17 all around

Won't it be easier to use if it's sitting on the floor?

A mill is one thing i want for my garage. I have a small South Bend lathe right now that is great for small projects but I would like a bigger one. Someday I will have a mill just don't know when.

Garage is nothing special, oversized 2 car (26x26), but I built it, so I was able to put in the beam...  mainly didnt want columns...  the beam was actaully cheaper than going with engineered I joists to span (there is a room over), I think it was $600 delivered from a local steel place, plus you get to put a trolley and a chain fall on it, which has come in pretty handy at times...

couldn't believe when it came, it has "made in russia" stamped all over it...  it is a sad day when it is more cost effective to buy steel i beams and ship them to massachusetts from russia than PA...

getting it in place is the trick, that is why most contractors shy way from steel (i think it was 1000+ lbs), good to have a brother-in-law that gives a local crane guy tons of work...
