Routing of heater hoses
« on: February, 06, 2010, 12:16:26 PM »
Per the following pics, I'm trying to decided if I want to run the heater hoses along each other or seperate them with one going along the intake manny and the other would actually be strapped to bottom side of the  export brace's RH arm.

Too much heat if they are on top of each other while traveling along the top of the motor?

I'd run the two together.  It has a neater appearance.

Or better yet, both together but along the export brace and then around like the bottom hose of the 3rd pic.  This would help keep this heat totally away from the carb and give the motor a much nicer appearance.  Such as:

I'm thinkng of using some -10an bulkhead fittings for the firewall, then just need a short stub under the dash.  And making my own hard tubes for going ontop of the intake.  That would make removing the heater core a breeze.

I think they look good in the first pic. I have mine like that and don't experience heat issues. I used a couple of aluminum hose clamps for a nice appearance and they work fine and look good too.

I did mine like your first picture. No problems yet.
You just have to look that the trottle mechanism don't rub the hoses.
I like the look !!

Question, if theres no need for a choke on the carb, why the need for a heater?  I would think you will probably never have it out when you need a defroster.  Just eliminate the heater core, and jump the hoses.

I never ran a choke on my fastback when I had a carb.  But you do still need a defroster some mornings and having heat is nice.   Those mornings, I 'd just have to let the car warm up a little bit extra.

I don't think I'd delete my heater in anywhere other than maybe Arizona or Southern California. Too much risk anywhere else. Heck, it gets down in the 40's sometimes doesn't it Craig?

I ran my hoses like this pic, but where is your heater control valve?
I used a S bend hose from the lower heater core tube to the control valve then to the eng.
The bent hose helps keep the kinking near the rear of the head down to a min.
If its already broken...I can't hurt it!

Pic of previous eng bay & hose routing.  excuse the dustyness.

You can see the heater control valve under the export brace with the curved hose to heater core.
