Routing of spark plug wires
« on: January, 16, 2010, 05:43:36 PM »
Is it ok to possibly lay the plug wires up close to or possibly touching the shock tower?  These are MSD's 8.5mm super conductors that I'm stringing up.

It will work but it will rub the paint off. I doubt it will be a running problem since the car will not see the street but twice a year or so.....

Note to self:

Re-route spark plug wires to look as nice as Craigs.

In a perfect world the plug wires wouldn't be touching anything along their routing, but they should be okay.

you could always just bolt one of those loom seperators in to keep everything straight and tidy.  They just bolt right to the valve cover. Although im not sure how available they are for a clevo.

Actually the loom kit comes with the vertical holders that do infact fasten to the valve covers but I  didn't like the routing to close to the valve covers,  or I think so anyways.   Need to look at this again.

Craig, that's how I have mine running and I've not had a problem in 5 years. It's much easier to remove the valve covers with the wires not fastened to or running over the VCs.

yea, but its not a big deal to get to them with the seperator on there.  infact, it keeps the wires weighed down and out of the way when they are off.  At least in my case they do.

Craig, i didnt like the way mine held the wires either,  I actually modified mine by bending it 90 degrees to a more desierable location.  Just a thought.

I have some aluminum wire looms that work well but they are a pain to remove.

Married to Tara, that makes me the TARA-fied one!

With that motor, anything is probably a pain to do in there. Looks good #2

I already posted this pic but here it the final product......for now.  Rick I had planned to use the Taylor looms in a vertical position on the valve cover (actually have all the parts) but felt while the motor has yet to be fired up, and possibly having to get into the valve covers, I didn't want to deal with the wires.

Rick,
dizzy:  MSD-8577
cap:   MSD-84313

The dizzy came with the typical red cap so I had to buy the black cap in addition.

I just painted my cap black.  It's held up pretty good.

What type of paint did you use? I have a spare, I suppose I could give it a go.

After scuffing the cap and retainer piece with a scotch brite pad, I shot it with plain ol' Rustoleum simi gloss paint.

Craig
First , nice job you did !
Second , isn't there an issue about when lining up the ignition wires , you should check the firing order from your engine and make sure that those wires who fires right up after each other , not suppose to be mounted beside each other due to magnetic field they create and misfire occures????
I did read something about this fenomenen.

I read that too.... Tried both ways on my 302 with no difference. I think the quality of wires makes a difference.
