Got a BJ from Craig and Jeff helped
« on: November, 09, 2009, 01:31:29 PM »
Yes it was a nice Brake Job :ecit that was done with the great help of Craig and Jeff.
I asked for and received the great advice and direction from both of them. Craig offered up the use of his work area and tools so we wouldn’t have to fight around a cramp garage at my home.

Started the teardown of the front on Friday. Plan was to update the front brake hose (former was quite short for its purpose) to Stainless Steel braided (Street Or Track!!!!) :pep :pep, new rotors, pads, drums, shoes, bearings and replace the roller perches with ORP rollers.

Started with the left front and had a slight problem with the Eibach springs…not compressed enough to reinstall. But after that things went easier. The right side was quite easy after the learning curve and all went rather well.

Of course the aftermarket parts were mostly from China. The front pads needed to be trimmed slightly to facilitate their entry into the calipers but all went well.

Jeff excused himself in the late afternoon and Craig and I continued on Saturday. Of course my speed wasn’t that great so Craig attacked the rear drums while I finished off the right front. The we did the bleeding and we were done.

I then took the ’67 out for the bedding of the brakes. Quite a operation if you haven’t done it.

Watching smoke pour out of the front wheels wells is odd but the ’67 really brakes well now. No more shudder upon heavy braking. And the perches have ceased the hard squeaking noise I got when the suspension was compressed.

It was a good weekend.

Thanks Craig for your help, knowledge, tools, space, misc parts....

It was a case of "while I'm at it"s at the time (years ago) and now it works so why bother.

What I really want to know is how you two brake jockeys got so damn dirty...  how does one get grease on their back when doing brakes....?

I agree.  I bet those guys just sat around while those "oil changing french maids" did all the work.  That dirt & grease they're is just for show!!!

I should have stopped by.  :craz

Looks like you guys had some fun.  Thanks for sharing!

In your 3rd picture..... the one detailing the roller perches..... approx. 2 inches above the zerk fitting on the UCA..... is that a crack on the shock tower or just the camera/flash/angle?

I was thinking the same thing, but it looks a little different.  It's a prime spot for the typical shock tower cracking.  Doesn't hurt to check.

I'll stick my head up there and check tonight. My guess is that its the undercoating peeling. :ep

This is the first time I've ever seen KBMWRS work on his own car. Amazing he didn't kill himself.
