Making some progess...

Sorted out my clutch disengagement issue (just had to re-bleed the system), and I took it for the first "real" drive yesterday. It sure feels great to get out and drive it.   Here are a couple of pics taken at sunset...

Side shot shows vent assemblies installed.

Front shot shows lower valance, driving lights and grille moldings installed.  Still need to install the inner grille & emblem.

Thanks everyone.  It's been a long journey putting this car together.  I've made many mistakes, and I avoided quiet a few mistakes by following the advice from many of y'all.  Come Jan 2010 it will have been 4 years since I started tearing into this car.  If I only knew then what I know now, I would have done some things differently.  Oh well now it's time to start enjoying some drive time!

To answer your question about being afraid to drive it... the answer is, "Yes and No."  Yes, it's definitely going to hurt the first few chips I get, but I really wanted to build this car to drive it.  As long as I have fun driving it, and I don't total it in a crash.  It's all good.  Hell, I definitely expect to get some road rash during open track events, but those scars in the paint won't override this smile from turing some laps on the track!!!

Still plenty of interior issues to sort out in the next month or 2... like reinstalling the 4-point roll bar (had to cut it out after it was installed too far back... it wouldn't clear the upper sail panel).

Mike, the car looks awesome!! Soon it will have some battle scars from the track and the permanent smile will return.

Wow, that looks great, worth all the effort.
I like the driving lights, what size are they? I'm installing 6" Hella's in my grille and am looking at center mount like yours or outer mount like the '69's.
Please post pics when you get your grille installed as I'm also debating behind the grille or flush mount.

Thanks, Jon.  I finished installing all of my grille parts today, but it was too dark to snap any pics.  I'll take some new photos sometime this week, and post them for you.

I purchased a set of Hella's Black Magic driving lights, and I mounted them from the top of the radiator support, behind the grille.  The lights were a little wobbly, so I also added a lower support brace.  The lower brace is just a piece of rubber that is wedged between the grille and the lower part of the light housing.

I like how the lights look black when not switched on.  They really disappear into the grille when turn off.  Here are a couple of pictures from the Hella site.

Here are a few shots of my grille and driving lights completely assembled now.  However, I think I should install a lower grill to match the upper grille.  I have old old "used" grille, so I might try to section a piece from it to cover the lower valance opening.

Car looks good, especially like the wheels  :naug

I am assuming you have not had the wheels on the car that long?  I have had mine on the car for about 4 years and judging by your pics, it looks like my wheels could use some polishing to get them where they used to be.

Thanks for the compliments, y'all.  It's been a great feeling being back on the road, and we Kalifornians have been spoiled with great weather for the last few weeks.

Are the HELLA lights just as bright as the headlights or brighter??

The HELLA driving lights are A LOT MORE BRIGHT than the normal headlights, which are just halogen replacements.  Too bright for normal driving, but awesome on quiet, less traveled back roads.

I've had the wheels for awhile, but while my car was being painted, I had the centers powder coated gloss black; highly polished the rims; and bought new center caps & lugs.  They look better than new now!

For what it's worth.... not much really, just my opinion....

I think it would look better if the driving lights weren't behind the grille.  Did you give any thought to using a shelby style grille?  With the lights behind the grille, it almost looks like an afterthought.... "Hmmm, I have these nice lights, where can I use them?  Yeah, I'll just bolt them up behind the grille, that'll work!"

Yeah, they'll work, but I think they'll "work" better not mounted behind the grille.

Michael,
I cannot expect anything less from a fellow Californian.  You make me proud.   Though the pics look great, I expect to see it in person when you come over to help drop the Clevo into Shag, next month and I'm sure in person, your car will look very Shagadelic (thats a good thing by the way).

I think I am going to have to go that route myself, I just have a few coats of paint on mine.

Did you polish them yourself?

Nah, I have a local guy that does really great polishing work.  He polished all my stainless trim molding as well as my wheels.
