'65-66 Sheet Metal Guages
« on: October, 27, 2009, 06:25:14 AM »
Putting in some sheet metal patches on the '66. What are the different guages for the body and the frame? Adding patches to the firewall and shock tower area.

Tough question.....

I keep an assortment of 16 and 18 gauge pieces of sheet stock laying around.  These sizes seem to fit a lot of different areas.  I'd venture to guess that the firewall is probably 16-18 gauge.  Depending on exactly where you're talking about on the shock tower.... is it on the shock tower or on the aprons adjoining the shock tower?  The shock tower itself is probably 3/16ths-1/4".  The aprons I'm guessing are the same as the firewall at 16-18 guage.

Don't use my estimations as fact.  I'm speaking from my memory and not the body/chassis manual.

Not sure if the body/chassis manual will have the gauges. I'll check when I get home.

Chassis manuals don't have gauges for sheetmetal.  Almost all sheetmetal is 19 gauge, except some structural support members (seat box rails, rear rails, front rails, shock towers, etc.)  You're best bet is to measure the thickness of the piece remaining that you cut a hole out of for a patch with a caliper and go from there.
