Well as of today I now own a 69 project car. A few weeks ago I post about a guy that had a Dynacorn body and 69 Mach 1 to sell. Well it is mine. I know it is going to be a big undertaking but I am ready for it. I did locate a 428 CJ short block so the car will be a big block. Now one of my questions is does anyone make an AOD that will fit a big block? The wife would really like me to go that way so I will try to keep her happy. If I can not come up with something she would go for a 5 speed. But for now to get them home and see what all I have.

Here's a sneaky preview of my future post on 95GT's ongoing build post which is similar to what I posted on another fourm moments before it's post was chopped:

So here's your challenge 95GT. Don't let your future build post raise these questions. Make us proud and accept suggestions and criticism... except from the likes of Sluggo, 70_Fastback and other GOG riff raffs. Those guys will lead you astray.... :3sum

Seriously, Welcome to Stangfix and let's see some pics. A couple years ago I helped a New Yorker obtain a '69 from San Francisco. I drove it around for a couple days before it was trailered off to it's new home. Very fun car.

There's 2 kinds of people in this world. Those that own '69 Mustangs and those that wish they did.

Definitely want to see some pics.

You'll have to spend some $ on an AOD that will hold up behind a big block. You'll probably spend less on a TKO-600 and the 5 speed is WAY more fun to drive (spoken from experience ... AOD in my '66, TKO-600 in my '69)!

Have to see what I can do for pictures. I am not real good at post them. Seems to take me hours just to get them to come up. I did find a place that carries an AOD that will fit a big block. But they are talking over $3000 for it. Almost sounds like a TKO 600 would be the way to go but I also have to keep the wife happy. I have to say when we sat down and talked about this and I told her look at spending at least $30,000 she never had a problem with it. Now the other problem I came up with. My friend that does my paint work is booked up until this spring. So now the car will have to sit until I can get the paint work down before i start to bolt things on. Oh well I knew this was not going to be done over night.

What are you planning to do to the big block? The C6 auto was used with the big block autos...

I plan to keep the engine mild. Will drop the compression down to 9-9.5 to 1, run a cam close to stock specs. Would really like to find a hydraulic roller,a set of edelbrock aluminum heads and a stock Ford aluminum intake of some kind. I want something with a little power but not a street killer. I would like some kind of an overdrive tranny and run a 3.70 gear in the rear.

If you foresee your wife driving the car much, then I can see why an AOD. Does she know how to drive a stick? Are you planning to strip the car down to a rolling shell, then off to the painter? How much together is the car? Am I reading it correctly that it has a Dynacorn body?

Not sure whats been done to the car but if its just the Dynacorn body and a parts car, you have a long way to go before paint. You'll want to assemble pretty much the whole car to make sure everything fits and lines up before paint. Nothing worse than a freshly painted body that needs a tweak here and there to make everything fit. Sounds like a fun project! Start posting those pictures!

If you go with a TKO-600, it has a .64 overdrive. You may want to consider running more gear in the rear if you go that route.

I'm running 3.89's in the rear of my '69 and it's about perfect. I'm turning about 2700 RPM's at 75 mph, have tons of acceleration in 5th, and 1st is still plenty useful (can pull through an intersection before having to shift to 2nd).

I get between 17 and 18 mpg on the freeway with the 408, even with those gears, because of the .64 overdrive.

Went and picked up the parts car today. Was able to get a few pictures of it before we moved it out. I will try to post them.To my surprise when we were loading some of the extra parts up the guy I bought this off came walking out with a shaker top. He does not have the base but that will same me some money. Will be picking the Dynacorn body up sometime this week. As for the painting of it all I plan on doing for now is just the bottom side and under the hood and all the edging. Then will bring the car back home and start to swap the parts I am going to use off the parts car. If I don't edge the body now everything I put on would not have paint under it. I also stated in my original post about this car that the parts car was a S code. Well it is not. It is a R code. A true 428 CJ car. Now to try and post the pictures.
