Slider Spring Mounts vs. Shackles?
« on: September, 22, 2009, 10:31:39 AM »
"These slider mounts are developed to free up movement of the rear end by preventing
suspension bind. The use of these sliders will also improve traction control by working
more independently than a conventional shackle. These sliders along with the racing
springs make the ultimate handling package for your rear end."

Why/How does the slider "free up" movement over the Shackle?

Married to Tara, that makes me the TARA-fied one!

There's bind in the design of shackles, try loosening up the bolts and you'll see what I mean.

The vendors I spoke to regarding leaf spring sliders said it's only recommended for a track mule.

Anyone running that setup on the street?

I was thinking the same thing before I scrolled down to your response.  While I agree that a traditional leaf spring's shackle will bind, I doubt it would have any noticeable effect on a primarily street driven car.

Loren's the 1st person I've seen use a slider that's not a track car! For sure you'd notice the diff on the track, but probably not on the street.

I still don't get what binds on a shackle? I have poly bushings and it feels pretty good...

I was about to ask the same question.  I think they bind with lateral translation of the springs (towards the side).

The GW Del-A-lum leaf spring kit is the next best thing to sliders. It's a greasable shackle that cuts down on bind. Does the front and the back.

I had a customer a while back that put those del-a-lum kits on his '66.  Said it was the best thing he did to the rear suspension.

That's what I went with for my rear leaf springs.

i think the sliders will just have to be inspected at the welds and to check the bushings are greased/cleaned regularly.
