New Pic...
« on: September, 01, 2009, 04:56:49 PM »
This was taken at the open house on Tyndall AFB, last March. Took this long to get it and then it came from a different person. The photographer is a club member and all too. Still trying to get the one of the '07 Vert PLUS one with the '66 and a P-51. So irritating.

Anyway, F-15 on the left, F-4 on the right. S=I spent many hours on those two. The center one is the F22.

Pictures like that really show the rake the car has. It always surprises me when I see good side shots.

Very cool, I bet those planes haul. I never liked flying. I'll take the Mustang over the others.

F-4...1485
F-15..1400+
F-22..1600+

The F-15 had maneuverability over the F-4.

These are published mph and altitude is critical for these speeds. In comparison, the SR-71 cruised at 2300+ and took clear pictures of license plates.

The F-105 "Thud" was a great airplane, as long as it's single engine was running. If not, they had a glide pattern like a rock........thud. They were a major resource during Viet Nam especially with the Wild Weasel mods used to locate and destroy the anti-aircraft defense missiles. I really enjoyed that aircraft.

For lasting from '58 to '84 with only 833 built and 382 lost, it could not have been to bad. It ran 1300+ mph.

Now ya got me started down memory lane..........the day is shot.

I have some F-4 manuals at home.....I was on the Program at McDonnell Aircraft during the last years of production. Then over to the AV-8B and then Flight Test.
The production line when 4 aircraft were on the lines was quite impressive.

The word in the F-4 engineering department was that we could re-engine the F-4 and with a couple tweeks it could easily out perform the F-15. Of course upper management didn't want to hear that when such a mod was quite cheap compared to a new F-15.

It's a daily occurance for me..... I've been working on the Harrier program since 1989.  As a matter of fact there was one today that was WAY THE HELL OFF of the nornal approach pattern that was so loud that I had to terminate a cell phone call.  The MF'er seemed to be hovering right over my head.

Around here we call it the "Sound of Freedom" when the noise is bothering anyone besides yourself.  When it's bothering you, it's just a PITA.

My uncle worked for, what was then McDonell Douglas.  He is (or was before he retired) a jet propulsion engineer, and helped design the jets for the F-15.  He took me on a tour of the St. Louis plant back in '80, where I got to see them assembling the planes and test flying the brand new ones.
