Cooling system stepped up big time
« on: June, 30, 2009, 05:26:33 AM »
This past Sunday,  Johnpro, JeffTepper & I were at a local Nor Cal car show that gave us a wonderful temp of 107 degrees.   3pm, I was getting tired and cranky and decided to head home.  With 75% distilled water, 25% coolant, bottle of water wetter, crossflow 4 core desert cooler radiator, 180 stat in Red,  the coolant temp averaged 184.   Very happy.

Nice, although that's kinda too cold:P  SBF's like to be 195-210F.  It improves combustion and leaves less carbon deposits in the engine.

That's interesting.

That's why the stock t-stat is a 192/195 unit.  Hell, if you could get it hotter than 230 without damaging anything, it would be even better.  Last I heard, some of the Japanese companies were experimenting with ceramic blocks to see if they could heat them up more.  More heat = less quench = improved combustion.

cool, I have switched to 75/25 with water wetter this summer and we have had near 100 degrees for more than 13 days in a row. I've sat for over an hour in the heat (97+) to get into the Hot Rod reunion at Beach Bend and the car never overheated. In the past with 50/50 I couldn't sit still for more than 15 or so minutes in lower temps as it would start spewing and overheat.

Married to Tara, that makes me the TARA-fied one!

Are you running an overflow reservoir?

I use a Ford's F150 combo washer reservoir / overflow tank.

Not for me it doesn't.  Much easier to add, sort etc with webshots.  Now I did notice that while being on Stangfix, webshots is very slow to load.  WTF Sluggo?  With all the forums I belong or have belong to, this is the first forum that is very non webshots friendly.  This sucks.

So it sounds like I need to post pics on my own website or Stangfix.  This blows chunks.
