Yes or no?
« on: January, 03, 2012, 10:06:34 AM »
The guy I trade seats with, is selling these Ansen sprint wheels. Fronts are 14x6 and rears are 15x8.5
I don't think they would look all that bad on Gertrude, but my husband says they are ugly.  :shrug

My 68/69 GT wheels are 14x6 and they don't fit but this guy had disc brakes on his 68 and these fit. Tomorrow I'm going to borrow one 14 and one 15 and see how they look and if they will fit on Gertrude over her disc brakes.

Classic and simple look. Plus they will fit! Not worth too much though. How much does he want for them?

$150. The 14x6's have brand new 185/70/14 Kumho Solus tires and the rear 15's have no tires.

I agree with your husband.  Plus there are not any center caps.

Hater.  :char  LOL  Probably why he's only asking $150 for the set. No rubber on the 15s & no center caps (those can be bought later down the road).

I don't think they look at all that bad. Of course I think my GT wheels that I have are ugly so what do I know. LOL

4 rims with two new tires for $150?! You will not find a cheaper way to get your car back on her own four wheels. Plus, like I said, it's a simple classic look that goes well with the car.

You can always sell them later for as much  as (or close to it anyway) you have in them when you are ready to invest in a nicer set of wheels. No brainer in my book.

I am not sure how I feel about appearances but I do like the old skool (and cheap) approach. It would get your car back on it's wheels and maybe you could sell your GT wheels for $150. Some people want and like those. If I was closer I might even buy your GT wheels...

Married to Tara, that makes me the TARA-fied one!

I love the old school look so this is my pick for a modern wheel in a bigger size.
They remind me of the Magnums we used to have in the stone age.

15 x 5's do you plan on the car handling any?  Usually running 4's or 5's up front is more of a drag setup, it diminishes cornering capabilities of the car.  Not feeling your first option either.  :shrug

I couldn't afford what he is asking on the drag lites anyway.  I had a few say 10s on the rear would make Gert look bad ass but I just don't know. Like you said, they would stick out. I'd have to put fender flares on to help hide that. The less I have to do the better. I just want wheels that fit.  :part

:censored :censored :rant :censored :censored

Lug nuts barely fit on the studs and the wheel barely fits over the caliper. You can hear the caliper scrape a little if you slowly turn the wheel.

Could I change calipers to something smaller? Might be kind of hard though finding one that will work with the kit/bracket I have.  :shrug

Sure you got the correct lug nuts? I thought those wheels took the type with a shank about an inch long or so. This also centers the wheel.

Sometimes you can file down some excess metal on the caliper depending on where it touches.

It's such a tight fit, I can't really see where it touches, but I can hear it.  Maybe I do need those type of lug nuts. He said I might have to change them depending what I had.

How in the heck do you shave off excess metal off a caliper?  :confu
