My girls car gets hit...
« on: December, 20, 2011, 11:30:16 AM »
Yep, happened Saturday night at her hairbag boyfriend's house. His Mom was in a hurry backing her pickup up and slammed into the side of her car. For Christmas all she had ask for was parts for her car' she wanted a Supercharger but setteled for a chin spoiler and rear black out panel. Anyway, her heart is broken as this is her pride and joy. Looking at the bright side, she may ditch the boyfriend.

Sorry to see that, Nice ride for sure, If someone hits my car when i'm finished I'm positive i'll go to jail for assault. I dont have pictures of when i smacked a deer HARD! and i'm glad i don't but it was really bad, I felt horrible. It could be worse glad everyone is OK.

That blows.

Is that the reverse c stripe or the 70 boss style. Same vendor as the stripe on my 08.

I went to fast signs and bought some 3m matte black vinyl and cut out my rear blackout and deck lid myself. They cut the hood out for me per my dimensions. I think i spent 120 bucks for everything.

I'd be interested in which chin spoiler you choose and what you think of it.

Its the Boss style. Here's a photo. On the rear blackout, I ordered one from Mustangs Unlimited thinking it was carbon fiber. When I received it I was shocked.. It was made out of like urethane and resembles the material that cutting boards are made out of. I had a heck of a time painting it. Nothing wanted to stick. In the future I would either paint it or buy the magnetic stick on. The chin spoiler is from the same company. Its for a V6 and is narrow. In SWVA nothing that is low in the front survives. They don't know how to use drain pipes and most entrances to gas stations will drag anything off less than 6 inches off the ground. I haven't mounted the chin spoiler yet or the BO panel and now will wait until her car is fixed. I'll post a photo when I "Git-r-done."

I Highly disagree! Why invest anything more in a relationship that already has Debt? Take your Lumps and Move-on! Better a Broken car, then a Broken Heart!

All I'm saying is if he is ditched before payment is agreed upon, the cash may never flow. Not saying the relationship needs another month of time.....just settle the debt....then dump.

You could get lucky like I did. Mine is an ex drag racer that loves cars and we get along great. She was here for Christmas and all went well. There are cool ones out there. I took here for a ride around Laguna a few years ago and she loved it.

And the repairs begin. Don't have a stud puller so I used 10b nails and a prybar. I know its "Redneck", but it works

i would think a pry bar would create even more damage.  What do you pry against?  or are you just pulling with it?

The boyfriend is ex, so no available head to use (until next time). On the prybar, I use a 24" with a nail puller to hook the nail head and then a 60" bar and brace it against the bottom of the rack and behind the small bar and then give it a pull. I could make up something better but by the time I made it (slide puller for nails), I will be long done. The car has to be positioned right on the rack for this to work. Crude but effective.

Just going to pass along a few things I learned to do on this repair. First is, I found it easier to lay the 10b nails almost flat against the surface of the car then engauge the trigger on the MIG and push the nail into the spot weld. You have to straighten it out before it cools though but it's easy to do. It was very easy to do once I got the hang of it. The payoff is it makes them a breeze to cut off with the whiz wheel. Also, I bought a used slide hammer for (20 bucks) and modified it to pull the nails. Its a little less clumsy than the two bars which works well but ties up both hands. I'm almost done with the metal (about 3 hrs) and starting to remove the paint.
