Exhaust tips
« on: April, 22, 2009, 07:27:52 AM »
Looks like my car will be going to the shop next week to have the magnaflow exhaust system installed. I need to find some exhaust tips. The kit came with some turn down which will definetly not be used. I have found that I really like the look of the double walled/rolled edge tips. Like these:

But I also think something like this one will fill out the cut outs in the valance pretty well.

Or this one

Or there are the ones like Darreld has on his car

What do you guys and gals think?

Copy cat.  I'm going to the exhaust shop next week as well.

I ended up giong with DynoMax Race Bullet mufflers though...  Going to be fairly loud.  :toot

And you DO have the exahaust cutouts in your valance?  Mine does not have them,  So I'm using  the Mach1 style tips, which are pretty low profile:

Yes, one of the two non original pieces of sheetmetal on the car is the valance, I swapped it for the GT piece with the cutouts.

I'm hoping I don't regret not getting a GT valance as well....

My old one was in great shape, so I re'furbed it.  Except I had to fill the hole for the air shock valve.

Jeremy, do you have the dimensions on those tips? They look fairly low profile, I'm curious if something like that would fit in the cutouts and keep a smooth line across the bottom of the valance.

I can measure them tonight Rick.  They are (and have been) sitting in the box for the last 3 years.  :crazy

And they are stainless as well.

I ordered a couple tips from Summit to check them out and see how they look. I ordered them on Thursday thinking they would get here Mon or Tuesday, but FedEx delivered them on Sat while I was out of town.

I didnt like the first tip so much:

Magnaflow stainless

The second I like much better, I just wish they had a rolled lip. They are Pypes brand stainless tips.

I love the sound of my Magnaflow system.
But I went with these Edelbrock tips.
To me, the back of these cars really need a round tip.  Maybe just more nostalgia than newstalgia, but that's my preference.

The Edelbrocks look pretty good.
The Magnaflows still look like creamed anus.

Since you are such a stand up type of guy, I would not think you would make a false statement. Based on that, you must have seen the above mentioned items to give a fair comparison. This makes one wonder what you are doing as other hobbies, but, we really don't want to know..... :hmm

I in fact don't know what creamed anus looks like. But imagination tells me it ain't pretty.

Stay tuned for more demented statements in the future. I've decided it's my job to be the sick bastid here.

The car left for the shop this morning. I moved the car outside and snapped a couple pictures while it was outside and loaded up on the truck. It was kinda cool following the truck to the shop and watching people react to the car. A lot would pull along side and hit their brakes to take a look, watched a couple guys try and snap cell phone pictures.
