When are you going to step up to Google Chrome as your default browser? All the cool kids are doing it.....
Okay, I'll play around with that. I'd like to get both the neutral idle and the in gear idle at about 600 rpm if possible.
What Terry said - nuetral and drive will not be near the same for an older carbed car with an automatic - there will be a couple hundred difference. 600 in drive would be OK - assuming your engine is stock or a very mild build.
With an E303 cam, you should be able to idle at 800-850, 650 or so in drive. That's not that radical a cam (and pretty much the same as the Lunatti in my build).
You may have a vacuum leak. Have you checked around the base of the carb and the manifold? The distributor could be the problem as well, I recently was working on a Maverick that I had your same problem. The mechanical advance was not working right. I could get it to run at 1000 rpm fairly well, but could not get it to run at a lower rpm. I thought it needed carb tuning, ended up being the distributor.
