Thanks, I would like to keep it simple with the electronics except the engine. Would love to use all Ford parts if possible. Thanks Dave for the link. I registered and can't wait to see the photos. Starfury, any idea what kind of power the Quattro can make?

I don't think it'll make enough to give you your 0-60 in <3s, but with the right build you can boost the hell out of it and make a respectable amount of power.

Realize that to get a 3500lb car to do what you want it to do, you need to have an ungodly amount of power available.  For example, a Porsche Turbo makes 500hp and still has a 3.5s 0-60mph time.

Looks like the one used in the Typhoon or Syclone (BorgWarner 1372) is the answer. Weight is a biggie and one of the goals would be to keep it down to about 2800lbs (or less). That will take some time to figure out. Engine wise, I would think about 450HP in a small block with the same Torque would do the job as long as it came on quick (maybe supercharged). Will a AOD mate to this and does anyone know if theres a chart that list at what torque level does a certain size tire spin? I feel the "shear pin" will have to be the tires. Done some research on the Syclone and it's 0-60 time is pretty darn impressive for a vehicles that weighs 3600. A "Car and Driver" test had the Syclone running a 0-60 time of 4.3 seconds. It seems to me that dropping a 1000 pounds and adding 150HP should do the trick. If not, it will have to be pretty darn close. All ideas welcome.

We have a customer that stuck a SBC in his S10 blazer square body style.  One mean truck.   It is supercharged and has AWD.  I think he used the AWD system that came with it.  Oh, he has a ticket from NV for 160 in a 75.  It was in a plastic sheet on the dash.

I had thought about the drive line from my daughter's S10 pickup in a new dynacorn Camaro body for AWD.  The 4.3 can be swapped out with a 350 and a mild build will not kill the rest of the drive line. 

For a Mustang I thought about a V8 explorer drive train.  Less weight, good power and AWD for the snow.  There are some real good power updates for the 4.3, 4.6 and 5.0 Ford and the 350 and all of them will bolt up to AWD systems.  All of them should fit in a classic Mustang. 

I imagine a 5.0 explorer drive train bolted into a coupe or vert would be awesome.  You would need some pretty decent floor mods to make it fit and some mods for the diffs and front suspension.  All doable though.

I would like to do the same to my little 90 Mazda B2200 truck.

Its got a Ford/Dart big bore 363 cid engine, and two t4 turbos. Biggest problem is that I don't have the room for bigger tires so AWD would be great, but I've already spent $$$ on the suspension so I might have to do something with the fenders in the bed.

I know a guy with a Lightning powered Expedition that runs 12's in the 1/4 mile. Expy's are HEAVY! He has the 4R100 trans which is huge but the same one they use in the Lightning and Superduty. My Expy with a 5.4 also has the 4r100. The 4.6 Expy & F150's use an AWD drive set-up and the 4r70W trans. which a a stronger AODE. Soooo, you could use a 5.4 Supercharged mod motor with a built 4r70W and transfer case from and Expedition....
BTW his Dyno numbers were: 378 hp & 457 pd ft torque @ 8psi boost. He says he was at 11 psi when he ran the 12's
