Last night two of them were asking about Gertrude and if I needed help getting her back up and running.

I know how you could pay them.

Next year, if this stuff is still this bad, I'm going to resign my committee member status. The headache just isn't worth it.

It will be.
Even if every committee member is changed, the crap never goes away

Welcome to why I didn't pay my dues this past January to the local "club" and don't think I am going to do their annual charity show in November, etc.

There are too many groups springing up around here that don't require "membership" and all the related political bs that goes with it.

There's always Nifty 50's if I get really desperate for a car meet....

Kat, I gotta ask, why did you join the club? Honestly. The reason I ask is because the most common answers are for enjoyment, camaraderie and to gain knowledge. I speak from personal experience as well. I was a charter member of the Coastal Bend Mustang Club down in Corpus Christi. I was also a founding member and vice president of the Savannah Mustang Club. I left the club in Corpus because of a military transfer. I left the one in Savannah due to some issues I had which no longer made it enjoyable. Let me say, there's a ton of great members in that club and continuing friendships are still around after over 20 years. The club is also a great success. I can speak from first hand experience when I say I wholeheartedly concur with all of the previous comments about the politics exist everywhere and always will. It's also common for a few people ending up doing all of the work. During my time I actively helped on the planning coordinating and running the annual car shows for 3 straight years. Each year there were about a half dozen that carried the bulk of the load so the entire club could benefit. Standard stuff for any club! Just remember, it's not a paying job. I hesitate to say this, but if it's causing too much stress and too little enjoyment time to leave it. That's a choice you need to make though, obviously. The friendships made will still be friendships, in the club or out. Good luck and don't stress it too much.

And it won't end there...again, welcome to why I am no longer a member of the local "club".

I have a couple of old friends I would roll with if they would get their cars back on the road. One has a 79 TA, the other has a 66 Caprice he's had since high school. Other than something like that, I generally prefer free agency.

Kat, hope everything works out for you.

Just like me to catch onto a thread as it's coming to a close.
One reason I bought a classic mustang (it very well could have been a VW), was of course for a project, but was hoping to meet people, maybe even make a "genuine friend" out of it, as real friends are difficult to generate!  I've made more "friends" from craigslist customers than any way, but nothing ever cAn compete with family.  Family is always there and make the never-ending best fan club!

I would think most restoreers are kind of recluses, spend time alone working, perhaps to post a photo to get a thumbsup! And that feels good after spending a large some of money and many hours to turn out something sweet!  However virtual friends appear to be the wave of the future, kind of like my kids saying"I have 300 friends on Facebook!" I say, "so those friend swill bail you out of trouble, or take you to the emergency in case of emergency at 3:: in th morning?

The clubs also seem to be superficial, but it's mainly about showing your work and to be recognized for an exceptional task.

I went to one club nearby it was cold and our classics were parked out of site! Eh, I'm discovering family of course is what it's all about, getting them involved, see my grandaughter smile sitting in nay nays old car, making lasting memories, a thumbs up when driving down the road or when getting gas.  The big Nifty50ee's just gives me a reason to drive the stang somewhere!

I'm more like Casper the friendly ghost ,"all I want is a friend". Clubs don't fill that need, only family.  Over time, the stangfix people get to know you/me over time and fill an itch, but that fateful day whenever the classic car is sold or set out to pasture , posting becomes less frequent with little to say.

I like the group I've been hanging out with lately.

No board meetings, dues, politics and endless bs.  They just have a cruise in meeting twice a month at a local Mexican food place.  Sometimes I actually eat at the Mexican place but mostly I just hang out in the parking lot and shoot the breeze with the folks that show up.

The guy that started this meet got sick of all the crap involved in "the club" and decided to just have a meet.  At first it was once a month but it grew to both the second and fourth Saturdays of the month.

Dne', I haven't been to Nifty 50's this year at all.  It gets too crowded over there at times.  I keep thinking I am going to go over there sometime but prefer the smaller local group and since I don't get the opportunity to go a meet every week because of the boys baseball, etc....I've found you tend to make friends more easily at the smaller meets where you see the same people on a regular basis.

I've never been to Nifty 50s. One day I will though!  :thu

As for the club... there's several of us who aren't happy about things but we don't want to quit the club either because we see the club as ours. It doesn't belong to one person. It belongs to all of us and we don't want to see it fade away because despite the drama, we all have the same goal to give back to the community. Heck our recent car show we raised $8,200.76 to give to the American Legion to help local vets.  :bowdown

The group of us (which is a few folks from my club, and several from other clubs) that show up to the weekly cruise in have a great time together sitting around BS'ing. It's the group of us who decided we want to participate in the parade and to heck with those who don't want to go.  :beer :steer
