Zinc/Phos Test Results of various oils
« on: March, 31, 2009, 06:18:38 AM »
 .............................zinc/Phosphorus

Castrol Syntec 10-40.... 648/545
Mobil 1 10-40......... 657/573
Royal Purple 15-40.... 989/891
Vavoline VR1 20-50.... 1018/920
Amsoil 20-50........ 1029/954
Brad Penn 20-50........ 1049/952

The numbers seem to be what I expected as comparing one brand with another, but the whole lot of them seem low. So I am going to send a couple samples out to Blackstone Labs in a couple weeks to see if their numbers are similar to what we see here.

This whole issue came to surface for I was reading some posts about Castrol Syntec oil ppm's since the mechanic put this oil in the GTO right before I picked the car up. What baffles me is that my brother was a strong believer of Amsoil. The mechanic knew my brother very well along with all his beliefs and demands. I think the mechanic was lazy and didn't have easy access to Amsoil. Thus my quest for answers.

I will be going with either Vavoline VR1 or Brad Penn.

You might try testing Mobil 1 15W-50 as well.  Supposedly that has a high zinc content.
