AOD neutral safety wiring
« on: May, 26, 2011, 11:59:01 AM »
I am trying to figure out the wiring for the Neutral safety switch wiring.

I am assuming I can just cut the end off the AOD wiring and wire on the connector from the C4 NSS.
Is this correct?

If so does anyone know what colors go together for the neutral safety and reverse lights?

NSS wires are blue/red; backup lights are black/red.  I do not know if they retained this color set-up for the 80's/90's for AOD.

Thanks guys.

Mid, does it matter which  wires of each color go together.

What do you recommend for splicing the wires together?

Mid loves it when you use wire nuts.  :sarc   Can you solder and shrink wrap them?

As long as you keep the NSS wires in the NSS system, it doesn't really matter which line you use to the AOD (hot in or the out line).  The same goes with the backup lamps.

And if you use wire nuts, I'll personally come over and give you a thrashing! :char :char :char

Mike

I haven't had time to do the wiring yet.
I am just going to cut off the 2 ends that I need and solder the wires together with some shrink wrap.

And of course some giant wire nuts!! :sarc

The duct tape holds the wire nut to the wire after it vibrates loose.

Got it.

Here's my plan. AOD plug on the left. C4 on the right. Lots of wire nuts in the middle. Lol

But seriously folks, if the OEM shifter gear selections still match up with the AOD (or at least the critical, P, R, and N) couldnt you retain the NSS and reverse light switch in the OEM shifter assembly?

But they don't....do they?  The length and throw of the C4 tranny lever arm is different than that of the AOD.
