Pat,I have a mass air sensor, it's a C&L that has the tube inside for the 24 lb injectors, you can get different tubes for different sized injectors. And I have an extra computer at home. It for a 5 speed transmission, not an auto. But it's a CA computer which is an A9S. The federal 5-speed computer which is the A9L. There's a couple of the scalars and functions that are different between the two and I couldn't use my Tweecer module and play with the tune. but for a stock motor, it should work just fine.Have you tried corral.net classified ads? That's where I got my A9L.
That was quick. thanks Pete. I sent him an email. Not sure what C&L means? I need one for an automatic.
C&L meters are a good meter. to change injector sizes, you just need to change out the tube. With the Pro-M meter that I'm running, if I go up to 30 lb injectors like I want to...I need a new meter.$175 shipped doesn't sound too bad. Looking at what computers, they're going for around $100. Plus you get the meter, and wiring harness. Is the motor stock or modified?
IMO the easiest thing to do is to buy a reman unit from autozone... or any autoparts store that carries the Carone brand... its got a warranty so it's hard to go wrong.A9L (manual) - Cardone part number: 78-4352A9P (auto trans) - Cardone part number: 78-5895Advance auto sells them for $132 with a one year warranty. If you have ANY other ECU, you get $45 off that price by using it as a core.Unless you want to mod your car, no reason to have it chipped.-Shannon
So if he modified the computer should I stay away from it?
I must have gotten lucky on my 331, cobra intake, 24# injectors, 70MM maf and an E303 cam with a stock A9L.... runs a little on the rich side, but I don't get the idle surging other than the first 30-45 seconds after a cold start. I thought the surging was moreso related to the Air Idle Control valve.
Stock MAF's are a dime a dozen... pretty sure I have a couple in boxes in the attic. I have a C+L on my Fox and like it due to the face you can change the sampling tubes for different injectors. A9P ECM's are usually pretty reasonable as well, most people think you need to swap to an A9L when you do a 5 speed swap but that's not the case. I'm running a 5 speed on an A9P with no issues.
I've read somewhere, probably on the corral.net forums...that you can run an automatic computer with a 5-speed, but not the other way around. But, I've never tried either way.
