Rear springs changed(pics added)
« on: March, 02, 2009, 11:20:55 AM »
:expl :expl......the old fashion way, no lift, no roof, no concrete pad, no help. I needed to get this done and no shops were available to do it in so I swapped them on the gravel drive in front of the RV. Used a floor jack and two stands. Took 3 hours from breaking the lug nuts to torquing them. I just need to test drive it and get a picture of how it sits. These springs are the ones that lift the car 3-4" so I can have that old school look. It also allows me to get rid of the air shocks. One of my old springs was really weak comparing the arc once removed.

I'm getting to old for this.......

I know not everyone likes this stance but it works good for me. Not perfect yet but closer.

To many busy ones coming up. Next Sat. is the club run to Tallahassee, You are out of town for a couple after that. Not that I didn't want to use the lift.

I did forget one step though, I failed to have a couple of cold ones when it was done. I had some running around town to do.

Have no fear, I will get more time on the lift plus a cold one or two or .......

That's why they put your beer in a small paper bag when you buy singles at the qwicki-mart.... duh.

Cars stance looks good Pete.  It's not my cup of tea, but I understand the look you were going for and it appears you nailed it.  Centerlines and jacked up rear.... old school all of the way!

Thanks

Yea, but the wife complains about the brown bag.

I was surprised at how the new springs helped on the traction issue also. I knew I would get some help but it really helped a lot. Car seems to get up and go a bit quicker now. The old school look works real good with the old school lumpy cam too.

I like the old school "rake"
too many punks running around with S10's draggin' the rear bumper and the nose pointing to the sky. Looks real stupid.
I think it's sweet!

Married to Tara, that makes me the TARA-fied one!

I like it as well, but it looks like it should have a bigger hood scoop.

Thanks. It has the normal shelby scoop now. I have a fiberglass hood that is of the '67 shelby style but I don't like that as much as I thought I would. It came with the car purchase. Not sure what scoop I would go to but I kind of agree with something a bit larger. I would most likely attach it to this steel hood.

I do like the boss scoop. I have looked at that or another one that has the same front style but is a bit longer. One thing for sure, there is no rush. Just wish I could move the fiberglass hood I have. Oh well, in time....

If it's not moving, maybe it's over-priced?

With my 66FB purchase I received a Crites Industries full FG AF/X style teardrop hood.  While the teardrop hood looks okay on some cars, it wasn't the look I was going for.  I've been trying to pawn that hood off on anyone who even glanced at it leaning against the shop wall.  After almost 2 years of no interest I finally gave it to a local guy last week.

Looks GREAT!  If I were making a track car/race car, then I'd go with the lowered look, but the Old school look is so neat! Way to go!

For anyone wondering, the springs came from JC Whitney, the ones that advertise 3-4" lift http://www.jcwhitney.com/EXTRA-HIGH-LIFT-REAR-LEAF-SPRINGS/GP_2005960_N_111+10201+600003427_10101.jcw . Used them on my last '66 with no problems so here they are again.

Pete, I was a little hesitant reading before I looked at the pics.  I'm not a big fan of the style (don't hate the style, just not my cup of tea) but I will say that the combo of the lift, your paint scheme and hood scoop, tires and wheels....the car looks pretty wicked.  It compliments the wheels very well.  I was pleasantly surprised.  One question though, why did you remove the wheels for spring replacement?

I was working in front of the RV (our home) on a gravel drive. I had more access with the wheels off. Thanks for the compliments. We get a ton of good comments at the local shows too so it must be right. lol
