Yeah that's right.....everytime I go in the garage to work on the cars...I turn on the lights, then I turn on the breaker for the compressor.

Today I did the same thing and then changed 8 tire/rim and put the wheels from the 65 on the 68 and visa versa. I used my impact to put on the lugs which is always up at 100+ ft/lbs.

Then I went for a drive in the 68 with the slightly smaller tires on it. 1/2 mile later...the back tire fell off.

Walk home, get the truck, get a jack, find all the lug nuts on the side of the road along the way. Put it back together and drive it back to the garage. Start trying to figure out what went wrong....and turns out I had left the compressor on last time...so I actually turned it off so by the time I put the last wheel on I was running 60ft lbs

Luckily the only damage is scaring to the inside of the wheel and I have extra wheels since I have a set for the track.

Ouch, that one hurt.

I just got done fixing my son's F250 Super Duty.  Wheel hub decentagrated at about 200,000.  It took a stub axle, hub, rotor, caliper bracket, lockout hubs...  And a fender still to go.

April fools was yesterday Nick.

I wish it was a joke.

It has not been a good day in the garage.  I also dented the front fender trying to fix some fender grab from the front tire.  :(

Don't feel bad Nick, today was your day, yesterday was mine. I was working on the coupe and decided to start stripping the engine compartment. I had a brand new stripping pad on the grinder. Since I knew I'd be at it for awhile I geared up, eye protection, hearing protection, long sleeves, gloves and a respirator. All safe, all set to go! I was standing in the engine compartment and after stripping for about 1/2 hour I made it to the back sides of the shock towers. Just as I started going at (slightly bent over), I almost crapped myself when I felt my shirt being ripped off of me and the grinder uncontrollably headed toward my man parts! Enough shirt got wound around the grinder shaft that it bound up as I struggled to hit the switch. It stopped just short of making contact with my waist. While I THOUGHT I was all in "safe mode", I neglected one final thing.....no loose clothing! I was wearing a work shirt and hadn't tucked it in. As I leaned forward a small breeze blew up at the same time. My loose shirt tail got blown towards the grinder which promptly grabbed it! After spending about 5 minutes prying the shirt loose from the grinder I took a break and got my heart rate under control. Needless to say it tore the dog snot out of my shirt. I then went and checked my shorts!

I wish it was an April fools joke, but I guess I was the April fool!! :wtf

  • Think before you hate
well you just have more opportunities to mess up due to your inventory of cars. Hope the fender damage isn't revealing on the outside.

Well your just a big boo boo this weekend aren't you ;)   Hows the finger?

The fingers throbbed all night.
I taped them up and went to bed.
Half way through the night they woke me up throbbing because I had taped them too tight.
Took of the gauze and went back to sleep.
Woke up in the AM and the burn area was all shiney skin but no more discomfort or pain...so all better.

Nick,

I feel like that all of the time, but the little victories give me hope that I won't always be inadequate when it comes to cars.  I'm a few steps away from fitting 2002 leather seats into my '65 coupe.  They're going to look great and I did it without researching how to do it.  It wasn't that hard, but it makes you feel good when you figure it out on your own.

Photos of the dents I put into the front fender:

The paintless dent guys are supposed to come out on Thursday.  Based on the photo they think they can help.

Luckily when the rear wheel came off no damage to the car was sustained...but the inside of the wheel caught on the under rider bracket (which is what prevented damage...it did however chew up the inside of the wheel quite bad and it was suggested that the wheel could fail now so I am replacing it)

Unfortunately it isn't perfect, the paint did crack/spider on me a bit at the locations....but....it looks worlds better and maybe a little elbow grease will help disguise it long run.
