« on: February, 22, 2009, 02:37:59 PM »
Torq Thurst D's
Fronts:  rim 14x6 tire 205/70R14
Rears:   rim 15x8 tire 235/60R15

The rears Rub(the lip has cut into the sidewall of the tire) I need to find someone around me that rolls fenders or i need to rent the eastwood tool.

I'm also looking for suggestions on tire sizes to as I'm looking to get new wheels and tires as soon as I get the fenders rolled

Thanks for the help in advance

Rears:   rim 15x8 tire 235/60R15, your tires rub with 8" rims in the back? I'd say you have to much backspacing.

If you get the right size wheels you would not need to roll them, although it would be a good idea and give you some added room. I have a 275 40 17 on the back of mine.

On the existing rim, yes? Your post mentioned new wheels and tires, what type of look are you after? Do you want the rear jacked up or dropped? Do you want everything tucked in the wheel well or sticking out like you have now. Do you have a stock rearend? is that why your 8" wheels stick out?

Sorry about that i meant only new tires no new rims i like my current ones

I currently have a ford small bearing 9 inch rear end dont know what its out of PO never knew. I like the old school muscle look so i like it "jacked up" in the rear.

the tires dont really stick out as the lip barely catches the tire side wall.
Im sure the 235/60R15's wouldn't rub with the lip rolled. Do you think I could step up to what laurie runs in the rear? 245/60R15 how much of a difference is 235 to 245 or is there a smaller size i should go with? and still look good?

Once i do the shelby drop this summer the stance should look more raked and what im going for.

Thanks for the help patrick

I was just thinking the same : your backspacing isn't good.I also have a 67 fastback with 15 X 7 styled steel wheels with goodyears 235/60/15 : no rubbing !
I am planning to change to 17 X 8 TT II with Bridgestone Potenzas 245/45/17

how much of a difference is 235 to 245

10 mm (245 - 235) difference in width.

1 mm = 0.0393700787 inches

10 mm difference * 0.0393700787 = a difference of ~ .40 inches (with rounding).

Bottom line ... if a 235 rubs, a 245 will rub worse.

TTD's look great, but the backspacing sucks.  That's one of the reasons why I only run 225/60's on the back of my '66, but can get away with 275/50's on my '69.

I'm running a 275 40 on a 17X9.5 rim and have no issues.

10 mm difference * 0.0393700787 = a difference of ~ .40 inches (with rounding).

But you need to split that .4 inches in half, .2 inches on the inside, .2 inches on the outside.  If he rolls the lips, 2/10ths of an inch may not be too much extra.
