Neat idea
« on: February, 11, 2009, 04:26:20 AM »
I talked to a guy yesterday @ a shop that does rust repair and restoration.
Was looking into picking up some side cash painting and such.
Great guy had a blast talking cars and may pick up a few project based cars from him down the line.

The neat thing is the process they have of spraying metal real metal back over rust and it fills all the holes.
He had a mustang with the normal toe boards gone on one side and the other repaired looked like new metal.
Same with a 70 monte the window frame was swiss cheese and they sprayed it back it.
Cool but thats all I know about it loooks like it would hold up as it seems to be new metal.

Any one else seen or heard of this before?

I'm not sure how the metal spray process would fill in any holes, but yes, we use a metal spray process in the machine shops here to build up the thickness of worn aviation components.  The metal spray process is usually measured in thousandths of an inch though and I can't see how it would be cost effective/beneficial to use on rusted through floorpans, etc.

It's called Rustbusters.  I just had some parts media blasted at the local Rustbusters.  He showed me the machine, and I saw the results.  Very neat process.  Maybe we were at the same one, I remember a Monte Carlo too.  Where are you located?
