thread for speedo gear?
« on: February, 01, 2011, 02:32:15 PM »
Hey guys, I believe I made a thread about putting the 3.50 gears into my '66 stang with the 5.0 HO engine/AOD tranny.  I was advised with the wheels that I have plus the 3.50 gears to go with a 20 tooth speedo gear to get the speedometer to approximately be the correct speed.  Well, it's still showing about 10 mph too fast.  I searched for the original post and could not find it.  Any ideas here? :roul

Because the calculation used is wrong somewhere.....lol

I have always taken the difference in actual speed from a GPS compared to what the speedometer reads plus the gear I had used and walked into a Ford dealer. The one I dealt with in Az. had a selection of gears and could set me up with the one I needed. They never missed. After that, I gave up the calculations........

I normally take comparison speeds at 30/40/50/60.... but 60 is the one that works best to get a good difference and the proper gear from my experience.

Yes, using a GPS is the only way to confirm speed.
