Simple question, but... was it hot and running when you checked it before you put fluid in?

I think they take 9 qts. when dry. Run it and see where it is on the dipstick.

10 to 1 it is your shifter linkage seal, it is a small o-ring that you will have to remove your valve body to install. Rich.

When you check trans fluid level you do it warm, after shifting thru all gears & in drive.

Some converters have two drain plugs.....sounds like bigger problems though.... Maybe a cracked case. I would pull the tranny and start looking.

Yes, the pump housing, seal or converter could have been damaged if not installed correctly.
My guess is the converter was not fully engaged and the bell bolts were tightened to draw it up tight.
This will do damage to the trans causing a real big leak.
If its already broken...I can't hurt it!

when I rebuilt my C6 the trans builder suggested I add 5 qts. then start the motor for 10-15 sec. shut off add another 5 qts. start motor for another 10 sec.shut off and top off the trans. He said the trans could not take the full 12 qts. in a dry trans all at once and if I added the full 12 qts. at first it would pump a few qts. onto the ground. not sure why but the procedure worked for me.
