looking for a name
« on: November, 05, 2010, 11:45:47 PM »
Well I am looking for a name for my fastback and being an european dude , I haven't that feeling for words.
It has to sound real american , mascular with a female touch.
Craig calls his fastback SHAG and Laurie has MURPHY, TROUBLE and now MOBY.
Any suggestions ?
Throw in the thoughts.

I had never thought of naming my car until I started visiting this board. We named our 67 coupe Amber due to her color (Burnt Amber). Now the whole family calls the car Amber, even some of my friends are picking up on it now, it just fits. My wife who is a big fan of the TV show House sometimes calls my car "Manipulative Bitch". It seams that that TV show had a character named Amber who was also referred to as Manipulative Bitch! Not sure what the wife is telling me here but I am watching the time and money I spend on Amber closer!
For you car how about the Duke of Speed, is that European enough?

First, let me clarify something.  I never named my Mustangs.   Our daughter named Red and a bunch of fellow mustangers named Shag after seeing some of the original interior pics.      I was just an innocent bystander.

Now for you Bruno, there's only one name I can think of:

EDDY

Even though my car isn't painted black yet, a buddy said FASTBLAK would be an awesome name. I kinda like it. I even thought once I tag it, I'd try to get the tags to read FST BLK.

I have a hard enough time trying to name a dog let alone a car. Roscoe maybe.

I have never named my car. I tried but nothing stuck.  I don't think a car needs a name.

Craig :  " I was just an innocent bystander."  yeh right !!!

Eddy has only two wheels , so , no way.

Patton : sounds too heavy , it ain't a sherman tank ,Dave !!

Fastbasketcase?   sounds its all rot behind the paint , sorry Midlife

Roscoe maybe.   Roscoe P Coltran ?   Sounds nervious

I think I have to agree with RSALWAY and GTSCODE.  No name , just car.

Usually cars, like many pets, have a tendency to name themselves. Mine don't have names.

I have never named my cars either.  But oddly enough, like Craig, I also have a red coupe, although mine's a 67.  Ok, so the other Craig has a red 67 coupe too.  I was actually thinking about posting a similar topic for my own fastback.  The red coupe was never intended to be a keeper, just a side project to sell that got put on the back burner when the market turned.

So, not only do I have no suggestions, I need to start my own topic.

I don't think a car needs a name.

i agree.  it's an object.  as much time as i spend with mine and the arguments i had with the girl i dated, i still think of it as an object.

naming a car just seems tacky.  i hope this doesn't offend anyone.

hmmm.... I didn't know that! cool. Can we see pictures?
I most often just refer to my car as the "Mustang" but as a project I would call it the Super Coupe. Of course now I have the POS and the "Drag Car" too! I do agree the name just has to come to you or no name is okay.
My truck we call the "FISO" from the blonde joke I'm sure you have all heard...

Our 67 is Captain America after what it looked like when we got it, and the 65 is Blue....Real original....

How about Jean????  pronounced John in France or Jean here....

I have always named all of my cars, my 67 just kind of named itself, but since you are soliciting names, how about Flanders?

Oops!!  You said the name needs to sound "real American" so how about Clint as in Clint Black the Country music star that wears a black hat, to match your car, I'm sure!

Yesterday it dawned on me that my 65 has a license plate that starts with two letters and then four numbers.  The letters are "ED" so I think I found a better name than "Blue" for it.  "ED".

So now I have Ed and Captain America.  I may change that now that CA is not Red White and Blue to Ted....

Now when I need to go somewhere I can take Ed and Ted....(Kinda and inside joke..)

My coupe was given it's name by my son. I was really hoping for a sexy female name but as soon as he laid eyes on the Mustang he said, "Hey, that's Fred".

I always thought "Steel", "Ethel" or "Edna" would be cool names for a old American cars.

Absolutely!!  My Fox earned the name "Thundar, the Barbarian"!!
I had a pickup called "Chucky". When it was new it was like the character on Rugrats... when it was old, it looked more like the murderous doll from the horror movie...
