Test drove a V6 today...
« on: July, 30, 2010, 04:06:43 PM »
Been looking at newer Pontiac products for a new daily driver. Found a 99 Grand Prix Supercharged in the "too late" section of the local swap & trade paper. Older than I'm really looking for but the 100k miles and $3k caught my eye. Got there and it was MINT. Took it for a test drive and HOLY FOOK!!! This is a V6?? I've been in muscle cars that didn't run as hard!

Turns out, it had been modded and chipped and dynoed at 360hp at the wheels. Now I have to convince myself that I don't need something with a glove box full of mid-12 second timeslips as a daily driver. :lol I've been looking for a peppy 30mpg 4 cylinder...god help me, I have enough sense to buy one of those instead.

25 mpg is still very good.

Buy it!

Listen to the blower for bearing noise.  I've seen a couple of these with bad bearings in the supercharger, and I don't think it's any cheaper to rebuild one than it is to replace it.

But then, I suppose you could always replace it with a bigger, better unit:)

Good call Tad. The more I think about it, this car is hard to turn down. New GM coilpacks, new GM blower snout/bearings, new fuel pump, new tires, recent paint touchup (it's black and it's niiice), chipped, pulley'ed, exhaust...I'm having a hard time giving up on the idea. If I was a little more certain I could turn it for a profit, I'd buy it tomorrow and try not to get a speeding ticket before I sold it. :lol

I *would* like to put it up against our 5.0 Mustang and see who wins...I have a feeling the 5.0 might not fare too well. :D
