radiator cap spitting
« on: July, 14, 2010, 06:23:08 PM »
Does anyone else have the occasional leak past the cap? I don't mean into the over flow. I have tried 3 different caps (with different pressure ratings) and they all have done it. The car doesn't run hot at all. Every once in a while I'll smell that smell, pop the hood and see traces around the cap that it has leaked.

Thanks Sam

Check the radiator neck for proper sealing. I had one before where the side of the neck where the cap latches was bent, allowing a looser seal in that area. Leak always happened in that spot.

Ditto what Pete said.  If your cap is good and the overflow is working there should be no leaking.

Spitting isn't good.  If some is just dribbling out the side once in a while that's usually okay with me.

Dribbling isn't bad. Wait.. what were we talking about?

I'm confused....are we still taking about radiators or are we now talking about chewing tobacco?
