Author Topic: Daughter's '67 suspsension project comes to a close! (Read 588 times)

This morning, surprisingly enough, the stars aligned and everything came together. I called, NorCal Motor Sports at 8:20, to see if we were still on for today. I was half expecting some excuse of why they have a car stuck on the lift, but that wasn't the case. Instead the owner says, "Sure. Can you have it here around 9:30?" Totally stunned and excited I drive over there, and they put it right on the lift and started working on it. I heard the kid doing the working asking about the Street or Track strut rods, and the OpenTracker roller upper/lower control arms. They all did their "oohs'" and "aawes" over them again, and the guy went to work. It was on the lift about an hour, when they called me over to inspect it. HOLY, MOLY, this kid did a fantastic job! You cannot tell they were ever bent ... best $100 ever spent!!

I had noticed, as I drove by the alignment shop, to get to NorCal, they didn't seem to be very busy, and they were expecting me. So I pay NorCal, and head the 2 blocks to the alignment shop (OK Tire on Auburn Blvd. for you Sacramento Natives).

It took them about 45 minutes to get it on the alignment rack, but I knew going in there would have to be some wait time. About 45 minutes after it's on the rack, the Alignment tech comes over and talks to the Shop manager. Of course, I'm thinking, "Great! NOW what's wrong!" They go back over and look at the '67, then the shop manager comes out to talk to me.

"Hey, these are some SWEET strut rods! Where did you get them?" LOL They were ooohing and aaawing over the suspension, too. There was nothing wrong. They just loved the whole setup.

We aligned it to the specs on OpenTracker.com and it adjusted up very nicely. Driving it home was simply amazing! You can take your hands off the wheel and practically take a nap. I guess my fall/winter project will be to upgrade Scary. None of these parts were available for the '69 when I built it. I think Shaun came out with the strut rods the following year, and John didn't start doing the roller upper/lower arms for another year after that. Kind of a shame to toss a front end with 25k miles on it, but the writing is definitely on the wall. Well, Scary does have the roller perches on it, at least!

Damn-it, I have to do Amber's 67 now!

It will probably be worth it! Maybe I'll do the 65 too. As always her car comes first!

Yes, I do. And could you stop by Joe's Cable Car Diner and pick me up a burger to go, since you'll be right across the Bay? Hmmmm ... best burger in Northern California!

I don't honestly know the brand on the sway bar. It's whatever John sells. I know that SacBilll, has the same one on his '67. It's a good question, that I'll have to ask John, if he doesn't chime in here.

My sway bar from Maier Racing has the same powder coated finish. I have a feeling all the Mustang vendors purchase from the same wholesaler.

Mine's the same one that M+ sells.
