UCA bushings wear?
« on: June, 27, 2010, 08:59:25 AM »
Am going thru the front end components on my 70 Mach and plan to change upper and lower ball joints. I can feel some up and down play in the driver side upper ball joint. They are cheap and easy to do since I have the springs removed. What about A-frame bushings? I plan to pull them anyway to do the Shelby drop but I cannot detect any rattle in the pivot shaft or bushings at all. Do I have to put a lever on these to tell if they are worn or ?

I have blown so much cash already, I hate to buy UCA assemblies just for the look. (done enough of that already)

Please advise

That's how you do it. Before you pull the arms from the car use a pry bar and lift up on the bushings ( big nuts ) too see if them move. They shouldn't move at all.

If the arms were greased on a regular basis and didn't squeak, they are probably OK.
