Author Topic: automatic pilot shaft bushing/bearing? (Read 335 times)

Ok, I'm going nuts, want to mate my AOD to my 289 and there is no bearing or bushing in the back of the crank (Scat) but i can't find it on Summit or any other site listed, only the ones for manuals. What is this bushing or bearing called for an auto? I guess I need one for a '93 302 + AOD? Anyone have a part # or link to Summit with the part? I'm guessing it's differnt size than the one that was on my C4? I'd like whatever is best wear wise - roller? or is it just a bushing?

got to thinking after we talked last night & i can't ever remember using one on an auto unless its a late model thing. the flexplate bolts to the crank & the converter bolts to the flexplate. sure it requires one?

Maybe it doesn't? seems funny to leave the trans shaft just hanging there though? wouldn't it vibrate? pretty sure it makes it all the way to the dished area in the back of the crank. I'll pull them apart and look again. I may have to unload my shed, of course the old crank is back in the corner...

the trans shaft fits into the converter, it doesn't go all the way to the crank on an auto.

bolt your flexplate to the crank, then set the converter on. it should center up in the crank without the need for a bushing, unless there is something different on the AOD that i dont know about.

There is no bushing/bearing on autos, only manual trans

Thanks guys, I was trying to be prepared to test fit and wanted to make sure i wasn't missing anything, been 20 years since I been this deep into a teardown/rebuild.

Can someone tell me what size muffler bearing I need for a stroke 333ci.? :dh
