Trophy,s
« on: June, 22, 2010, 05:05:15 AM »
I made a best of show trophy for our car show in Stanwood WA. this Sunday. What do you think? The rest of the trophy,s are specialty awards and the powder coated single piston and rods are for all others. Total of 100 in all. Dont have the labels on yet as I just received them. Will do that today.

Very cool.  I wish my trophies looked like that.  All mine are things like bent valves, leftover carb rebuild parts, and acid bathed chrome.  Those are pretty sweet.

So much better than the run of the mill stuff. I used to work in a trophy shop and that stuff was the rare things we did.

One local club gives a single piston with rings and rod as a Sponsors Choice. I got the first one they made about a year ago. I get lots of comments on it. Nice job.

great. I was lucky enough to win a first place trophy at a show this weekend and it was a plaque with a picture of a corvette on it. this is much better.

Those are really cool, any of those are a trophy I would display vs. the standard ones.
I'm going to suggest this to my club, maybe start out with just one or two for special awards or use a cracked piston for the 'hard luck' award since our big show is also an opentrack event and I'm sure someone will break something!

I love those.  Great conversation pieces.  Lately I've been winning several trophies with my 69 Corvette and the new standard seems to be those crappy looking plaques.  Somehow it just isn't the same as regular trophy.  I've been showing the Vette for three years now, and the previous years the trophies ranged from statues of eagles to glass plates etched with the information and placement.  I guess it's the economy.  Several years ago I won one with my Mustang at BAMA's Ponies and Snakes show that was a little gas pump.  My wife loves the thing.  Those carbs and pistons are perfect mementos.

i had a friend contact me who is in charge of the "southeast truck nationals" being held on july 17 about building some specialty awards like this for the show. he's dropping off the bases for the trophies in the morning & i guess i have free reign over what i build (scary, isn't it?). i'll post some pics when i get something put together.

here's what i threw together on short notice. the first one is best "under construction".

this one is for "best engineered". still need to finish the top tomorrow. its kinda neat because the whole assembly spins & all the spider gears work.
