Can anyone recommend a good, decent trans. cooler. Something not too pricey, for a daily driver.

I *think* C4 transmission... if that's something need to know for a cooler. Not really sure what radiator it is since the PO has redone tons of crap, so could be mustang replacement one or for all I know, from something else.

For a daily driver just use the cooler built into the radiator...or are you saying the current radiator does not have an integrated trans cooler?

Like horsepower stated, the one in the radiator will work fine. If you don't have in internal tranny cooler, then 'bout any of the tranny coolers would work. Like this one from Summit: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HDA-403/

I'm pretty sure it has an integrated one, but this is not a typical daily driver. The PO was building this car for racing so lots of stuff was modified. The car already has a trans cooler, but we kinda broke it last night.

These lines caught on the garage floor when we pulled it back into the garage, and pulled the trans cooler down and bent it.

It was able to get pulled down because it was just wedged down between the grille and radiator, not bolted on.

Isn't stack plate better than tube and fin kind?

The stack plate are supposed to cool better and I can tell you they are much sturdier, looks like you'd have to hit them with a hammer in the ribs to damage them as opposed to the thin fin ones like you had.

I'm running a B&M on the daughter's coupe which helps keep the AOD cool.

Dang. that did a number on your old cooler.

The cooling efficiency is dependent on the surface area of the tubes and fins, air and liquid flow, and temperature difference between the air and fluid. The more surface area on the cooler equals better cooling (to a point -- but I won't go there). I just picked one from Summit at random. Just about any of the external coolers will work better than an internal cooler.

Avoid those. While they look cool, the amount of surface area contact between the oil, cooler and the air provides sub- standard cooling.

I ended up buying a stack plate kind by hayden. All I can say is :fbomb trans coolers and :fbomb rubber hose lines. That is all. Have a nice day. I'm going to go break something now. :po

I hope those :fbomb are in reference to the old one breaking and not difficulty in installing the new one?
I'll be running solid lines on all my connections as I'm not crazy about rubber lines and screw clamps, it's more work but well worth it in the end for me.

Those :fbomb are for installing the new stuff. Got the cooler mounted in front of the radiator and thats good to go... but PO and his half-a$$ed hack job on the steel lines underneath are pissing me off.

We have new steel lines, but not going to put them on yet. We're going to use the existing ones we removed until we replace the radiator. The way it is right now, the lines are going directly to and from the transmission instead of to the radiator. The radiator thats on there now, there is no room to hook the lines from the cooler to it because of some big a$$ hose on the bottom (forgot what it's called..starts with an S) is in the way. We'd have to buy a whole new radiator that has the opening on the other side. If that makes any sense.

Sounds like you are getting right into the middle of the "while I'm at it" position of rebuilding. Do it right or do it twice is something to really consider on any rebuild.

I just want this damn thing on the road. They way it was set up before worked fine if the lines weren't hanging so low to the ground. We just had to do a little bending of the lines to keep them from hanging down like before.

Be sure to tie them up with something. Make sure they are not tight against anything if there is no rubber cushion to keep them from bouncing and wearing a hole into the line.

Yep, enough to fill it..... :lol :lol

Depends on how empty it is. I would get three or four quarts and see where that puts you. Don't drive it until it is filled properly. It holds around 15-16 quarts I believe but a pint down can effect the operation.

Well it is pretty damn empty considering the fluid is all over the garage floor and in buckets. :craz I guess I'll just have to buy several quarts and keep checking it. I just wasn't 100% sure on the type of fluid or just how much can go in.

Yep, type F is the stuff. Just add some and cycle it thru the gears without moving. Check and add as needed. Be careful not to overfill it. If to low, it can foam a bit on you also.

Pete, I think that you're over estimating the capacity of the C4. When I put the new one in the wife's 65, I used about 10 or 11 quarts. No external cooler, but that shouldn't add much to the system.
