Shortening AOD dipstick

I'd like to shorten my AOD dipstick and tube as it's a little obnoxious for my tastes and may actually hit the export brace where it is.
Would you suggest cutting at the lower tape (1) or upper (2). I'm really leaning toward 1 as it would be least intrusive and about where the C4 one was I believe.
The stick has the 2 rivets at the top holding it to the 'cap', I plan to drill those out and shorten the top of the stick the same length as i take off the tube and drill/rivet back on. The tube will be powdercoated after shortening to match the engine bay.
Thanks, Jon

I would use #1. The other may still be close to the bracing with the angle.

Looks like the tube came out of a truck application. Have you checked one from a Fox body, I think it is shorter and would have the marks already in the correct position.

+1
Even your number 1 mark would make yours longer than the dipstick tube in the AOD in my '66.
