anyone using these hedman shorties?
« on: June, 03, 2010, 04:33:56 PM »
after the lowering job, i now need to replace those crappy headers that are on the car now. not sure what they are, but they hang way too low (2" ground clearance) & dont fit the humps in the trans crossmember at all.

i hate to put a bunch of money into an expensive set of headers until i decide on a motor for the car. wondered if anyone has these hedman shorties & what you think.

No experience with those particular headers, but I would avoid painted ones.  Pony up the extra $ for ceramic coated.  It makes a HUGE difference in heat dissipation and the finish lasts forever.  The painted ones will likely smoke like crazy for the fist hour, as the paint burns off, and then go bare, an then back to rust in a year.

I have the 88406 flavor in the 68. Fit is excellent, driver side is close to one point the c4 bell housing, but not a big issue.

out of curiosity, has anyone ever tried a set of fox body shorties on the older cars? i had a set of coated MAC shorties on my last fox & they were excellent. i'm curious if the collectors would dump & not interfere with anything. you would think there would be more room & less crap in the older cars to get in the way.

Won't work ... shock towers get in the way on the older cars.  If you did a Mustang II front end and remove the shock towers, then they may work fine.

yeah, figured there was a glitch somewhere or i would have seen a set on an older model by now. i think i may go with a set of patriot shorties. compared to the hedmans i listed the link to, they are heavier guage (16 vs 18ga.) thicker flange (3/8 vs 1/4") & larger diameter primaries (1 5/8" vs 1 1/2"). they are raw vs painted so i can coat them myself before installing without having to strip off the paint.

Fixed it for you....

I'm running the below linked shorties on my 5.0 based 347.  With the shock towers removed for a MII conversion and the original steering box removed due to R&P there is no interference.

I've got those on my '66 . I was tired of the Heddman long tubes hitting any bump larger than a cigar . The 88400's install very easy and the clearance is great . next time I will buy the coated ones for the reason John mentioned .

I had headman shorties and they we horrible. They were thin and I always had exhaust leaks. I ended going to Thorley headers and man those where real headers. Thicker flange and bigger primary. I wished I wasn't cheap about it at first because these are a lot better made.
