Hey guys. I just installed my SSBC disc brake kit. Everything went great, except the pad retainer rubs the disc. The only part that rubs is the spring tab that is attached to the retainer. It seems like the whole thing should shift over about 1/4". I think if I oblong the mounting hole I will be okay. But I just wanted to check in with you guys to see if anyone else has had this problem.

I'm running SSBC brakes and didn't have this problem one bit. Maybe your rotors aren't seated enough into the bearings or the bearings not seated just a bit? I hope this is correct...I believe the calipers are mounted to a mount separate from the rotors themselves.

Are the holes centered on the retainer? That retainer bolts directly to the caliper. The rotor should be centered in the caliper, which means the rotor should be centered in that pad retainer. If it's not, my guess is that you have goobered calipers. They aren't wearing correctly. Now if the pad retainer isn't drilled out correctly, that's another issue.

We have SSBC brakes on both of our cars, and neither one of them have had any issues with the retainer. Double check to make sure that everything is seating correctly.

I will double check it. I drove the car and everything seemed fine, except for the noise that the caliper retainer was making. I would think that if I didn't have the bearings/disc seated correctly the car would have made a racket. Thanks for the input! Hopefully I can fix it and move on. :)

If the rest of the braking system is working correctly, it stops ok, and doesn't pull, you could always just use a die grinder to widen the gap on the retainer a little. The retainer is only there to keep the pads from coming out. It isn't necessarily a precision part.

I still think that one of your pads has worn more than the other, leaving the rotor offset in the caliper, which would make it offset in the gap of the retainer.

Thanks, I doubt one pad is worn more than the other. The brakes have a total of maybe 2 miles on them. I'll have to investigate a little more once I get home.
