More front left '67 caliper saga

Ok, after 2 failed attempts to get the correct front left caliper for my daughter's '67, I ordered one that was almost twice as expensive from RockAuto.com

RockAuto has 2 different brands.  The more expensive one ($210 or so) is by Cardone.  I ordered this one, as it specifically said it was a Kelsey Hayes.  Well, it's not.  It's a Kelsey Hayes knock-off.  The ones from AutoZone, although the incorrect ones for the left side, all have Kelsey Hayes embossed into the caliper and are MUCH higher quality.  The Cardone ones from RockAuto look slightly different and don't have the Kelsey Hayes embossed in it.

The super expensive Cardone one is pretty much a crap part.  I had to tap 5 of the 7 threaded holes on the caliber, as 5 of the holes were completely goobered up.  When I went to try to bleed the brakes I couldn't get one end of the transfer tube to seal.  The nut on the threads bottomed out before the flare contacted it's seat.  In pulling the transfer off today, it looks like I will be able to grind the surface down a little to allow the transfer tube to seat.  I'm half tempted to return the piece of crap, as I shouldn't have to go to this much work on a $210 part.  I've been trying to get this done now for almost 4 weeks, though, and want to see this car back on the road, so I will attempt to make this one work.

I'll be sending RockAuto a message with my thoughts on this total POS part.  Hopefully, I'm not going to have to order a 4th caliper, and wait another week to get it!

For what it's worth, I went through the rebuilt caliper saga also. After many returns and exchanges from Cardone,  I bought new casting units from Stainless Steel Brakes. They have been on the car for 4years with no problems. Well worth the investment. My $.02.

Damn it!  Now I've blown it!  I should have just put the '70 disk brakes onto the '67, and put the old frozen up calipers from the '67 onto the '66. 

Now it's too late.  Pete's on to me! :doh

Call Dan at Chockostang. He will have the correct part at a reasonable price. I've used rock auto once and that was a mistake, never again.
