broke throttle linkage
« on: March, 10, 2010, 03:25:59 PM »
I had straightened the two 90 degree bends on my throttle linkage many years ago (20 maybe) on my BBF to get more length and it finally broke.  :cry
I carry an emergency supply of tools and junk like duct tape.  :craz
I duct taped the linkage together and zip tied the tape so it wouldn't slip and made it home. Then swiped the linkage from the 67 in the driveway and ordered a new linkage. It finally came and I installed it today!  :vic

Thanks Sam

Very close to the setup I use. This was on an older engine but I use the same thing an them all. About $15 finished. Much nicer than stock.

back in the h.s. days, i broke one going home from a day at the beach in daytona. i had everyone in the car take their shoelaces out , tied them together into one long strand , fastened one end to the carb linkage & ran it under the back edge of the hood & into the open door window. we drove about 20 miles home with me working the gas by pulling the shoelace...

:lol I was wondering if I might have to do that, the tape kept stretching and by the time I got home floorboarded was about 25 mph!

I kid I worked with borrowed his uncles car to to get to work one day... It was raining lightly when he was getting ready to leave for the day and found out that the wipers didn't work.  We rigged up a pull rope out of handkerchiefs to swipe the windsheild and bungy cord to draw the wipers back down... He drove home 35 miles without issue... other than a worn out arm...

Duct Tape and a roll of (bailing) wire should be in every vintage car trunk.
